In all likeliness this is a stupid question, but I am confused on how the typical chaos marine armaments works. Many units have the following weapons:
Bolters
Bolt pistol
Close combat

I have an Emperor’s Children army that I haven’t used in a while. Some are modeled with bolters, others are equipped for hand to hand with chain swords and bolt pistols. Do my close combat squads lose their +1 attack because they are now carrying invisible bolters? Can my bolter guys fire their pistols then charge? How does this work?

Much appreciation

They all get +1A for having a pistol and CCW. The bolter doesn't affect them at all once in close combat.

Bat Country

Because it is their basic equipment that every CSM has to have you don't 'need' to model it for WYSIWYG. That is really only an issue with special weapons.

Edit: Every CSM that has the 'base' Pistol, Bolter, CCW that isn't modeled with it counts as having it anyway.

That's pretty cool, thanks.

Follow up question - do my marines with sonic blasters and other special/heavy weapons also get the +1 attack for having a pistol and close combat weapon?

The noise marine sonic weapons replace their bolters, so they get the two close combat weapon bonus because they still have their bolt pistols and ccw.

Check your wargear section, man, but a lot of the troop types have both.

I think the rules manage to avoid saying so explicitly, but sometime before you actually roll to hit you have to decide which weapon each model if using in its ranged attack. If your CSM's shoot their bolter pistols, that's an assault weapon so they still have the option of assaulting. If they fire their bolters, they don't get the option.

I've got a few of the old Chaos Renegade models, too, and they did became a lot easier to deal with in this codex. Invisible standard gear is fine, it's invisible upgrades or optional weapons (like las cannons) which get you into trouble.
