OK, so the question I raise is: Is it permissible by RAW to purchase a TL-Barbed Strangler for a warrior?

Here are the relevant language:

Codex Tyranids pg 37: "Each warrior within that brood must then also choose two weapon-symbiotes at the cost listed, and no more...Warriors with two ranged weapon-symbiotes may only fire one per turn...Only one Tyranid Warrior per brood may take a barbed strangler or venom cannon."

Tyranid FAQ: "A Tyranid carrying two of the same ranged weapon counts them as a single twin-linked weapon". So per the FAQ two BS become one TL-BS.

One could point out that a Fex is able to purchase two TL deathspitters or two BS (which would then become 1 TL BS per the FAQ) and thus a warrior shouldn't be able purchase a TL BS, but that is not RAW .

i dont think a warrior could hae either of those in TL, it says 1 warrior may purchase a barbed strangler or venom cannon, it says nothing about taking a single TL one.

I'm sorry, but what's the question? One could point out that the first word of page 20 is Valedor and it wouldn't change how the bioweapons work, either.

The warrior takes two choices of the same weapon and the codex is satisfied. There's no requirement that the weapons must be different. If the two weapon choices are identical, you get one twin linked weapon instead of two regular, but you've still made your two weapon choices.

The importance of the FAQ is for spelling out that a Carnifex which buys two venom canons (or whatever) only has one twin linked venom cannon to fire instead of two.

I was just adding the language that references information portaining to BS and warriors.

I had to double check the wording, and according to the wording, it's one warrior per brood may take "a" barbed stranger or venom cannon, which unfortunately is going to prevent you getting the pair for twin linked.
