I'm a bit confused about a couple of units in the IG codex under 5th edition, and I'm hoping the luminaries of Dakka can help out.

1. Command squads: Do they count as troops or HQ if taken as part of an infantry platoon? The rulebook says anything that comes from the "troops allowance" is a scoring unit, and the command squads come as part of a troops selection in the infantry platoon. That seems to indicate they satisfy the requirement of coming from the "troops allowance." But they are under the HQ heading in the codex. So, which takes precedence?

(Whether they are HQ or Troops really matters for scoring unit purposes, and in the 'Ard Boys scenarios where HQ units surrender extra victory points for being killed.)

2. Schaeffer's Last Chancers: If you split them into sub-units, does each sub-unit count as a kill for annihilation scenarios? Or do you have to kill every last one of them to get any kill points?

1. Troops.

2. Yes, each sub-unit would be a separate KP.

1. Troops if they are the command squad for the platoon.

2. If a unit operates independently then YES each sub unit is a kill point.

"Do NOT ask me if you can fire the squad you forgot to shoot once we are in the assault phase, EVER!!!"
