A question arose as of late in a game against my SM friend.

He Deepstruck in Landspeeders with meltas and both times he dropped them they scored lucky rolls on on my tanks.

When I shot at them he mentioned that they got a 4+ cover save for having moved via the deepstrike.

My question is if this is true would it take in any consideration about the Landspeeders ability to fire its Melta on the turn it drops in?

or

Since it is a fast skimmer it is still able to fire that one offensive weapon?

I tried to figure out for myself but i figured input would be the best.

Thanks!

I'm not a rules pro... but I don't think anything that deepstrikes are considered moving - in terms of in the movement phase, because there is not discernable distance the unit did in fact move.

It (BRB) iirc, only says they can shoot (as if they had moved), or run and that they cannot assault.

If they did in fact 'move' via deepstriking - how far did they move? My brain hurts.

**EDIT ** I stand correct by the post below

Please note - terms like 'always/never' are carried with the basic understanding that there are exceptions to the rule, and therefore are used to mean generally...

Not familiar with the rule about the 4+ Deepstrike move. I assume this is about the Landspeeder being a Skimmer, yes?

Technically, deepstriking is a declared move of 0". Ergo, he can indeed fire his Multimelta's but he cannot claim the 4+ save, unless this is covered specifically in the rules.

Just found what I was looking for actually and it turns out.

Vehicles in DS count as moving at cruising speed so they don't get a 4+ cover save but they are still able to fire.

A fast vehicle can fire one weapon at cruising speed.
