I know, I know. Dark Eldar are: hard / dumb / ugly / whatever; Well I don't mind, they are the army I have chosen to play with and I have my reasons. First, I love their fluff (does that make me .. odd?). Second, none of my friends play them. And third, I kind of like their look and play style (aside from the pointy hats of course).

My original hope was that I could start out real slow (and financially responsible), and just purchase bits or sprues through eBay. Unfortunately, I was peer pressured into buying the Battleforce Box, then a few days later I found an amazing deal for an entire army on eBay; how could I resist better than half price models!? So now, I am the proud owner of 4269pts (before upgrades) worth of Dark Eldar. yay!

Wow! That sure is a lot of Dark Eldar.

Good luck with them, I myself am horrible at finishing large armies, but it´s good that some people have faith in their focus.

As an aside, is the army mostly vehicle mounted, or more of a footslogger army? Most people go with transports for DE as far as i know.

Most of the time it will be a Wych Cult riding Raiders (using warriors to stand-in for my lack of wych models). But really, it depends a lot on who I'm playing and the type of game (assuming I know beforehand, ie campaigns). Also, since I loose a lot anyway, I enjoy making really odd army lists with units I don't normally take. It helps to keep my friends on their toes, and to avoid becoming a predictable army.

Good luck with the DE being your first army. They are hard to master. They definitely take finesse. Anyway, post some test minis, I like seeing DE painted well.

I describe them as being Razor blade Origami. They are really fast and can hit really really hard but once the counter attack hits you'll be wishing you were tougher, even Craftworld tougher.

I'll be keeping an eye on this, really interested in dark eldar but I can't stand the metal models they have at the moment personally, well some are okay but don't like most.

I've played some dark eldar on VASSAL and I find it's not as bad as people tend to think once you get the hang of what I consider the number one rule, allways dictate the flow of battle.

Since you already have all your stuff bought up this probably won't be much interest but I really liked the stuff doghouse did on warseer.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

*Carefully rubs eyes and has another look* Nope, they're not decieving me. Those are really Dark Eldar... HUZZAH!

Congratulations on getting such a great deal! And congratulations on starting your first 40k army, not to mention
starting with Dark Eldar. Until I tried DoW: Soulstorm I never really looked that much at them (Not that they were great
in the game, but at least they were there). In fact, I can't recall seeing more than one DE army in real life, and if I recall
correctly, the guy who had them only brought them out to show off, never to play. I guess their lack of popularity, not
to mention their 'not-so-kid-friendly' fluff, explains why the local GW shop doesn't have them in stock. Or any of the other
local stores for that matter...

I wish you all the best in working on what must be a giant pile of metal and plastics. If I should offer some advice, I'd tell
you to set some minor goals along the way. Like "this week I'll finish another 10 warriors" or "this month I'll have these 1500
points done." Really helps with motivation. And post some pictures while you're at it! Keeping a blog is a great way to get advice,
kudos and to generally stay motivated.

Good luck!

Thank you all I have all of the metal models and half of the plastic (warriors, bikes and raiders) models assembled. Everything that is assembeled has been primed and a couple of warrior squads have some base colour.

Since I have so many warriors, some of which won't even be able to be fielded in a normal game, I have gone ahead and started to model all of the weapon options/upgrades. It works out to be 29 models per squad (slightly different for a retinue). I have also decided to use 4 base colours (1 per squad) to help differentiate my squads. There are 8 possible warrior squads (6 troop and 2 retinue), 4 squads will have more of a solid colour painted (you can see the start of the Purples and the Reds in the photos above) while the other 4 will be mostly black with coloured 'outlines' (as shown in the Core Rulebook). I hope that makes sense, I'm not always the best at describing my thought processes

I won't be home for a couple of days, so new photos will have to wait a little. I'll get them uploaded as soon as I can for you though

I apologize for the lack of updates, I have been really busy lately .. it seems to be wedding season and just about everyone I know is getting married! *sigh*

Anyway, here are a couple photos of what I've been up to (more Raiders, a bucket of Jetbikes, some blue Warriors and a Talos):
