I've always liked the look of the Tau XV25 Stealth suits. IMO, they look more "fitting" than the blocky XV8. Back in 4th ed, when TLOS didn't matter, I was planning to convert my XV25s and make them "count as" my XV8 by giving them XV8 weapons, bigger base, extra armor/bits etc. My commanders will be wearing Shadowsun's XV22 armor kinda like the commanders of the Adepticon 2008 Tau Army shown here. But because of 5th ed's TLOS rule, it might cause some issues because an XV25 is somewhat smaller than a XV8. How do you think I can fix this problem? How should I convert them?
P.S.
Someone suggested that I model them like they're flying. However I don't want to model them flying. I want them standing tall on the ground.

How about giving them "tall" bases?
You could sorta model their bases high enough so that they have XV8 like height, and thusly save yourself from having the argument...

What issues are you worried about causing? I mean, the XV25 is a legit stealth suit.
If you're worried you'll be at a disadvantage shooting over certain things with them...don't worry about it. Just play the game with the models you like.
If you're worried your opponent will complain because they're smaller than "normal"...don't worry about it. People make modeling changes all the time. Part of the hobby is modeling stuff you like. Unless the modeling change was done for an obvious rules advantage, no one will care except "That Guy", and you don't want to play with "That Guy" anyway.

I think I'm more worried that they are smaller and my opponent will make a big deal out of it. Maybe I will ask permission first to my opponent, although it would be nice if I don't need to. Do you think this conversion will be tourney legal?

It could work. I'll just use some old rubble on the base. Hopefully it won't be too big. Thanks Xanthos.

They're models sold by GW that represent stealth suits. it doesn't matter if they're the previous edition, they're 100% legal.
Any opponent who makes a big deal because you're using the 3rd or 4th edition model of something. I see 3rd edition carnifexes all the time and they're way smaller than the current one.
So long as your model is on the right base size, and obvious as to what it is within your theme, no one has a right to complain about it. height goes both ways...they can't see you, but you can't see them either!
Anyway, again, they're legal models, they're fine for stealth suits, there are no rules that says "you need to use the most current model" or anything like that. I really really doubt you'll ever find anyone who complains about them.

He's talking about using the current Stealth suits XV-25s as Crisis suits which are XV-8s. Current Crisis suit is quite a bit bigger than the current stealth suit so that's where the issue of size in 5th comes in. Probably the best thing to do is to talk to the group you play with (or store management, club president etc.) to see what their thoughts are. Tournaments may be an issue however.

ah, yes, I see. for some reason I was thinking XV-88 was crisis suits and XV-8 and XV-25 were just the two types of stealth suit (instead of XV15 and XV25).
That makes it a lot more problematic - people tend to get confused if you use a unit for an army as another unit in the same army. But I'm sure with proper modeling (as with the shadowsun converted to crisis commander) it would be fine. But make sure they're on the 40mm or whatever bases that come with crisis suits.

Bulked out so that they're the same size as crisis suits, I think it would be ok. Fixing the height is easy - pose them on scenic bases that bring them up to proper crisis suit height.
