Hi guys,
interested in some of your thoughts on the list. A couple of things quickly, we're a bit more comp heavy than in the US, so I can't max it out too much in one area.
Also, I'm reasonably bound thematically being a pre heresy army and all, but that's enough gabber!
Chaos Lord
Daemon Weapon
130
5 Terminators
Power fist, Chain fist, Heavy Flamer, 1 combi melta, 3 combi plasmas, Icon of Glory, 1 Champion
220
10 Marines
2 Meltas, Icon of Glory, Champion, Powerfist
Rhino, Extra Armour
270
10 Marines
2 Meltas, Icon of Glory, Champion, Powerfist
Rhino, Extra Armour
270
10 Marines
2 Plasmaguns, Icon of Glory, Champion, Powersword
Rhino
255
10 Marines
2 Plasmaguns, Icon of Glory, Champion, Powerfist
Rhino
265
8 Marines
1 Meltagun, Icon of Glory
Rhino
175
4 Bikers
2 Plasmaguns, Icon of Glory
172
Landraider
Extra Armour, Dozer
240
Some of my thoughts are that the bikers are HORRIBLY inefficient, however as theyre one of the centre piece units (modelled as jetbikers based on the MOTRW), I dont think I could drop them. I have removed the power fist toting sergeant they had however, as although he closed up a vulnerability for the unit, he was 73 points for a single model, and gets very punished by the 5th ed wound allocation table. I also think that maybe I should have 3 melta squads in rhinos instead of 2, the only reason I've gone with 2 of each at this stage, is because I actually have 4 plasma gun holding marines allready painted, so it means less work to do the next 500 points.
I also originally had 6 termies, not 5 - and 1 less rhino, opting to deepstrike the termies and have a tactical squad in the raider. Am I making the right move dropping 1 termie, buying an extra rhino, and putting the termies in the raider for more reliability and protection?
Thoughts/comments/stelekesque shredding/suggestions/feedback all welcome and appreciated!

Before we start talking about the list I have a few questions.
You don't seem to be willing to change anything. You just gave a huge "This is fluff so don't change it speech" about a lot of the inefficient parts. And also, if you want this to be so fluff bound why are they CSM? Pre-Heresy means they are still SM. Good opportunity to use the new SM codex eh?
I don't want to put you off or be an ass but I've had a lot of people ask for advice on a Pre-Heresy list then blast me for changing anything.

Regardless, here is how to fix it. Keeping in the CSM codex and trying to be pretty Pre-Heresy. I know your not going to want to run Sorcs or the best psychic power in the codex but here it is.
Chaos Sorc, Wings, MoS, LoS 145
Chaos Sorc, MoS, LoS 125
6 Terminators
Power fist x2, Reaper Auto-cannon, 2 combi-meltas, 3 combi-plasmas
250
10 Marines
2 Meltas, Icon of Chaos Glory, Champion w/ Powerfist
Rhino w/ Havoc Launcher
270
10 Marines
2 Meltas, Icon of Chaos Glory, Champion w/ Powerfist
Rhino w/ Havoc Launcher
270
10 Marines
2 Plasmaguns, Icon of Chaos Glory, Champion w/ Powerfist
Rhino
265
9 Marines
2 Plasmaguns, Icon of Chaos Glory, Champion w/ Powerfist
215
5 Bikers
2 Plasmaguns, Icon of Chaos Glory
205
Landraider
Possession, Havoc Launcher
255
Not sure if this has anti-tank problems. The Meltas will help and so will the PFs. Since your only going to DS the termies I nixed their Icon and gave them melta/plasma their champ was a waste of points.
Edit: I was thinking of putting the 6 termies in the land raider but because those 2 extra spots for passengers are taken up by extra skulls they can't ride in it, bummer. Let me do a rewrite.
Edit: That works... kind of.
Edit: You get the idea though, also, more oblits.

Not at all, honestly it's welcome
The bikes are the only thing I wasn't looking at dropping, and not from a pre heresy standpoint but more from a "modeling centrepiece" standpoint.
As for why chaos codex, it was basically 6 of one, half a dozen of the other type scenario as to whether I used the CSM codex, or the SM codex. If you restrict yourself to the SM style choices only, they worked out to be pretty much the same (I havent run through the new marine dex much yet). As when I started making the army, the SM codex was on the horizon, I didnt want to spend a few hundred hours on something then have it rendered useless, so decided to run with the CSM dex instead. I also like the flexibility provided by having BP, CCW and Bolter.
I've been running the army in 1500 points for a little while now, not always, but generally I tend to find the termies going "I bother to show up on turn 3 or 4. I deepstrike down, half mangle a unit, your whole army then shoots the unit off the table, and I put all the models back again" - which is why I'm pretty keen to see them hop into the land raider actually.

My idea of a pre-heresy army is a little more than a lord a plain marines a few bikers and a landraider, with a pre-heresy army people tend to look at the old edition styles more than the new, and you would have to make your painting really good, thats my idea of a pre-heresy army.
And you said that you are taking a chaos lord, in pre-heresy they aint chaos yet, so why not try and make a primarch, i cant remember who the primarch for the emporers children was, i think it was lushus, but im not sure. So if you took a primearch as a leader, people would really wow at your army.

He obtained a daemon weapon on Laeradon (sp?), the daemon from the sword slowly took over Fulgrim, until he was a prisoner in his own mind (there's a bit more to it than that). He then became more and more daemonic, and is now basically a many armed serpent daemon prince, who rules over a pleasure planet.
He was last seen giving Guilliman his beat downs :>

Has GW got a model for him in his curent look, or would you have to construct one from scratch?
