I'm reading my new SM codex just staring at all the prettys and see this......

You can give each Sternguard marine a flamer and upgrade 2 marines to heavy flamers. How much heat is too much?

This could be a Stelek "baptism in fire" must have squad in every army

With the rest having combi meltas, and Vulkan, three units of those in pods would be pretty good.

I just wonder why use flamers.... they have a special ammunition type that ignores cover....

Granted the HEAVY flamers are nice, but depending on how much you have to pay for them, I might just call their bolter fire "good enough" and use that to allow me to stay further back.

It's already sick enough with their Hellfire ammunition and a Librarian casting Null Zone, while shooting Nightbringer.....ugggghh.

I used the SGVs to sit back and shoot stuff while they came at me. Then as they got closer, I switched to the AP3 rounds. I have yet to stick them in a pod.

just to clarify something. sternguard may all be given combi-flamers, only 2 per squad can be given special/heavy weapons. they may still use their special ammunition if they have a combi-flamer so there isnt really any downside to giving them combi-weapons.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

Flamers are too good to be true since in the 5th ed, multiple flamers are stacked before rolls are being made.

I thought the same thing until I thought about the potential wounds of a bolter vs. potential wounds from a flame template. Flamer wins, especially vs. horde units like orks.
