I HATE THIS. I hate it so much I can taste it. It tastes I should like be employed, drunk, and eating pizza with a room full of strippers.

Yep, I am going for a walk. I have a coupon for pizza.

But when I come back ...

At least I do not have to deal with bloooood. And human stupidity.

It is starting to make sense, I am 'sucking it up', if you will.

Heck, maybe after I get a job I can even learn to paint .

I have more idears on my desktop. Mostly stupid websites and crappy philosophy essays. wee. That, and gaming stuff. Cool conversion ideas etc. Stuff to fill up a website/ portfolio once I get it up.

you can take it down if I am not supposed to be posting pictures of pictures of the legs of a picture of a naked woman. In chains. They're just legs.

I am going for the walk and thinking about ... pizza ... yeeeeees. Sorry but I am self-banning myself from the nefariousness of the OT Zone.

I worked the floor at a Staples one summer. Nothing ever solidified my resolve to go to (and finish) college like that did.

All in all though, if you hate what you are doing, STOP DOING IT.

Seriously. You can find another job or another line of study or whatever. If the problem is that you just hate doing part of it, but the rest is really cool, then I guess you can suck it up and work though it. But really, if it just makes your life miserable, there are other things you could do that pay off just as well and don't turn your life into a living hell. Trust me on this one.

I used to supervise a Tim Horton's. Does not sound so bad, now. The baking job I could have done until the day I died.

And, no I like computers. My first computer a TRS-80 I used to mess around with. I like "C++". Oh well. It will be fun to use once I learn it.

Hey, Taco, where do you get your girls in chains from? I get mine from some of the Kink websites.

I bloody love my job, a properly safe career til I retire as long as I don't f*** up too bad, no university and no student loans, very good career progression prospects and relocation options, very good index linked pension and medical scheme, £31k a year before any overtime ( and there's a lot) for 37 1/2 hours a week at 23 years old. If I do anything more than my standard hours it's all double time. Oh, and I wake up in the morning and am actually pleased about going to work most days!

Yeah, I'm not smug.

Nice. Reminds me of a friend of a friend. Paramedic in Toronto. Good overtime if you want to celebrate Christmas a week early.

Got through that one. Chopping away at the next one. I went over it once or twice, this is the final kicker before I do something with it and put it on my resume. yyaaaayyy.

Enough pictures of naked slave girls I can probably skip the walk and the pizza. I got a doughnut last night, too. Hot-damn!

I'm an Operate Technician in a Nuclear Power Station (it's all in my profile i think?). I'm like the lowest of the low in the Operations Department, I go round with a radio checking plant, and at the direction of the Reactor Operator in the Main Control Room I go manipulate valves, run pumps and motors, perform tests on equipment to prove it's operability, do on load plant changeovers (changing over standby and duty kit, say two identical pumps, without stopping the process flow) perform electrical switching and operations up to 415v etc. It's pretty cool but there is loads more that I need to learn.

We do shift work, it's pretty cool, on a six week cycle you do 1 week of days (training), then the rest is morning, evening or night shifts. You never do more than four days in a row after the first week and you get days off during the week all the time. In that six week period you do 7 nights, and two weekends, (one of those is nights) The sixth week is a week off after the weekend nights. Also, as the shifts can fall on your bank holidays etc they get added onto your holiday allowance so we get 35 days holiday a year. Oh, as one of the guys on shift (there are minimum numbers) I form part of the Emergency Response Team for Fire, Medical, Chemical and Nuclear Emergencies... As such I'm a fully trained Industrial FireFighter (It's the same as offshore firefighters for oil rigs etc).

There is overtime covering other shifts for holiday leave and also everyone goes onto 78 hours a week when we switch off to refuel every 18 months, so that's a garunteed £5-£7k overtime on top of your normal wage, plus whatever cover shifts you pick up every month.

I love my job!!

Wow so basically you're homer simpson? I'd love that.

A friend of mine worked at a trash to steam plant, he started as a crane operator where all he would do is sit in a lazyboy looking chair with a joystick on it in an airconditioned room lifting trash into the burners with the big crane.. far away from where the trash actually was. And he moved up pretty quick. He's got no degree or anything. He had to go on disability for a back injury he got on the job, but he was making over 70k a year at the time. Now he gets paid real well to sit home and be Mr. Mom.

Gotta say I agree with Pheonix up to a point- we only have one life, so spending half of it doing something one hates (or finds no meaning in) is a terrible idea. But our meaning can come from lots of different things, like having kids or making the world a better place or having plenty of cash for hedonistic self-indulgence. Sometimes maxxing out the earnings and taking the lumps is worth it.

I could do quite well in corporate health IT programming, but instead I run a nonprofit that does the same thing cheaper for needy clinics. Less cash for hookers and blow (I keed, I keed!), but several times more meaning. I'd still rather be a farmer in Washington state's San Juan islands (it's like the Shire, I kid you not), but having kids would be impossible.

Oh well. Office job for the win. Unfortunately, it's also stepping on my painting/gaming time. I might have to ask for a raise and earmark it directly to painting service costs, as life just isn't worth living with 6 half-painted armies.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

You mean some people actually get jobs in the field they learned in college? I worked at a Perkins for three years until I finally quit in disgust, and most of the people there went to college but then couldn't get a better job, so they made everyone else miserable pretending they were better people because they went to college, even though it obviously never helped them. I gave that crap up ten years ago, and now I engrave plates for a guy who sells sports memorabilia. I put one in the machine, which takes between 20 and 40 minutes depending on its size then I go back to painting miniatures. Good for me, because the next time I would have had to take any lip from some goon half my age who thought he was god because he went to community college restaurant management for two years, I would have ended up in prison for multiple murders.

People that go to college then work at Perkins for a career are too stupid to have a degree. Unless it was for restaurant management, and they're the manager :p

I went to art school thinking I'd draw comic books one day. I was accepted to a big cooking school but picked art instead. I ended up dropping out of college and delivering pizza for a living till web design fell in my lap and I've been doing that ever since, but now I'm planning to open a restaurant in the next year or so.

This tends to sound elitist , but I really don't think everyone needs to go to college. Making college available to anyone and everyone had the very serious drawback of enabling every slow to get a degree. As a result you have this surplus of people with diplomas and no demand for them, except now the lowly jobs can raise their requirements and still pay you a pittance because they know you need the money.

The worst I ever saw, and this is no joke, was when I was browsing the job openings listed by the local town's Human Resource Department and saw that applicants to be a garbage man needed at least an associates degree, preferably a degree in waste management. They seriously wanted people applying to hang off the back of garbage truck making $14,000 a year to have a degree. WTF.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

ya-da-ya-da-ya-da here's some 300 quotes. I am doing recursion, from this book.

Recursion:
I do what I am trained to do. What I was bred to do. What I was born to do.

Regarding my shattered childhood, bereft of hookers and booze:
At age 7, as is customary online, the boy was taken from his mother and plunged into a world of violence, manufactured by 30 years of computer science to create the finest minds the world has ever known. The TRS-80 MC-10, as it's called, forces the boy to fight, starves him, forces him to steal … and if necessary, to kill (hack).

His helmet is stifling. His shield is heavy. His underwear needs laundry.

"Hire me." As simple an order as a man can give. "Hire me before I die." For he didn't wish tribute or song. No monuments, no poems of war and valour. His wish was simple: "Hire me," he said. That was his hope. Should any free soul come across that place, in all the countless centuries yet to be, may all our voices whisper to you from the ageless stones: he was hired. So he bought a house, and some miniatures, and his life went on. Long they pondered his cryptic talk of warfare in the Grim Darkness. Time has proved him wise, for from hacker to hacker the word was spread and he was soon hired, and bought a home and finally got the hookers he always dreamed of. Give thanks, then! To the sacrifice and the long hours! To victory!
