Hi all,

I'm thinking of heading down to my FLGS and GW tomorrow, (thank goodness for late night shopping) and stocking up on some metalwork as I got paid today and the metal models are being price hiked at the end of the month.

I'm primarily looking at:

Ork Special characters and weapons/weapon teams, also any kits like dreads, kans, any vehicles etc?

IG Catachan and Cadian Special characters, weapons/weapon teams and vehicles/vehicle parts

Now, I'm also aware that both of these forces are scheduled for new releases in the new year, Orks in the first quarter and IG sometime over the next 12 months. So there's no point buying metal models now just for the sake of it if a better plastic item is in the pipeline.

If anyone has any thoughts, comments or suggestions I'd really appreciate it!

Rather than buying metal stuff, I've been busy figuring out ways around needing metal stuff. Obliterators can be done with Terminators, green stuff, and random weapons off the various sprues I get for other units. I'm debating turning a Dreadnought into a Daemon Prince by adding GS and wings. As Alpha Legion, there really isn't anything that I need metal to do beyond that.

Remember paper stuff too. Plastic is not increasing everything esle is. Codexes are not made of plastic, they are all going up £3.

My plan is to spend my budget the same as always, and if that means fewer minis then it's
fewer minis. It's not like I ever run out of things to paint or game with.

I've just been looking around for other companies to buy my dwarf characters from, I've found some really nice ones, and I won't have to pay £8 each (for a dwarf!).

Is this how they encourage extra spending? To warn pople of a price rise so they rush out and buy lots of stuff before it goes up in price?

Sorry, I'm particularly cynical this afternoon, where can I see details of the price rise and what products are affected?

Hi Howard

These price rise changes were announced at the end of August so that folks had time to check out the details and make informed decisions.

You can find UK details on the UK website

on the right hand side.

I hope this helps

Cheers

I long ago stopped buying GW metals new. They priced themselves out of my particular price bracket years ago. I still buy some of their plastics, but source my metals from other companies or fleabay. This new price hike is water off a duck's back therefore...

Global metals markets continue to be very turbulent, however, there is every indication that the markets are undergoing a longer-term change, and not just a temporary disturbance. Recent historical data clearly indicates the scale and duration of the problem. In these circumstances, the increases are so large and frequent that absorbing them is obviously commercially unsustainable.

Well, Bloodcrushers would cost $600 to max out now, prices are going to go up, hmm, so much for including bloodcrushers.

Unfortunately, way too many things that I want are metal. If they were plastic (and cheaper), I'd already have them. I do hope that this means more things will be coming out in plastic quicker. I do find it so much easier to work with.

Just went to GW tonight thinking "Well, I'll see what they got. I don't really NEED anything, I have almost a legion of DA to paint yet."

I was almost seduced to get another set of Chapter Masters and another set of Mk 2 vets...but I resisted.

Yeah, I bought a Chappy with a jump pack, ANOTHER Emperor's champ (such a nice model), and that nice DA Chapter Master instead.

I want Wraithguard. I really do want Wraithguard to do an Iyanden style force with Altansar colors. But why bother when I can buy an entire army + gubbins of another type for the same price as two maxed troops units?

Dakka. You need more of it. No exceptions.
