Oddly I thought that was the advantage in voting of sci fi concepts without a strong description.
If you say WWII USMC I 90% know what I'm getting, same if you say Elf Rangers or Wild West civilians. And I'll vote accordingly.
Modular Robots? The image in my head might be completely different from yours. I'm seeing Short Circuit style industrial robots with weapons, you're seeing Terminators and he's seeing Robby the Robot, so we vote for 3 completely different things that all more or less fit the description.
It's like voting for Hope and Change. I like both of those things! So do you! Of course our ideas of what they mean might be completely different.
Which is why the poll might've been skewed in the direction of vaguely-described things, i feel.
Possibly.
It appears nobody went for my specific Death Fields Agincourt Bowmen...who I wanted to turn into supporting Infantry for a 40K Knight.

I would accept any and all of those modular robot suggestions.
I have yet to be disappointed in any of WGA's modular offerings.
That's before even getting in to the conversion potential...

Are we talking about 50s men in cardboard boxes painted silver? Androids? Terminators? Star Wars? Battlebots? Steampunk? All of those? See the problem yet? If someone has a particular idea in mind, something that doesn’t match what’s in the final box, it doesn’t sell at all! If the box is a hodgepodge of designs, will anyone buy it if only one or two of ten designs in it meets their needs? It has nothing to do with whether they work with 40K, or not, and everything to do with the fact that ‘modular robot’ far too easily means different things to different people.
I’m pretty sure you’re not the original poster I was replying to. His argument was that the only market for robots was not- 40k, thus these were destined to fail. It was rooted in an insulting appraisal of sci fi gamers. You’re moving the goalposts quite a bit. Also:
1. The word modular implies there is more than one way to assemble them, so they will likely be able to satisfy a few of the robot subgenres you mention, even more with kitbashing.
2. Star Wars and the Terminator are covered and protected IPs. I doubt very many people were expecting exact copies. As for “inspired by” minis, there will likely be some options to appeal to those markets without competing directly with existing kits.
3. The idea that there isn’t a market for “only” some kinds of robots when the field is largely unserviced is pretty ridiculous for a company that found a space in a glutted market for WW2 Germans, via different jackets.
4. WGA will be showing design sketches and getting feedback. They aren’t going to just drop wrong robots on the market with a damp fart.

Wargames Atlantic is looking for a painter.
We are looking for painters! Matthew Leahy has done most of the painting for our boxes - and a VERY fine job indeed - but we are staring to overload him and he needs some help! As a full time art teacher, husband, and father there is only so much time that can be spent on toy soldiers!
We are looking for a special kind of painter. A veritable Renaissance type who meets the following criteria. #1 can paint quickly to a high standard. #2 can do their own photography and #3 has a collection of terrain that can be used for that photography.
We admit it's a tall order and have been spoiled by Matthew's mad skilz but if you believe you are a fit please let us know below and point us to your other work.

2. I never suggested they would directly be copying IPs. But their inspiration will likely come from somewhere. In the meantime, you better let Sony know about GW ripping off their Terminator films for the Necrons, by that standard.
3. You actually make my point for me - the Germans were not successful because they were Germans - they were successful because they were a very specific look , or uniform style in this case, that was not catered to before. Not because they were ‘WW2 Germans’. Or ‘modular robots’. Which are equally vague descriptions.
4. I certainly hope not. Because I’ve seen too many examples of companies doing just that. It’s fine to listen to fans, to a point - as long as you don’t take what they say too seriously. Because they can’t be objective. They just know they want something, and are vocal and have an audience about it. Doesn’t necessarily mean that there’s actually a viable market for what they want, though.

2. Skeletal robots are already covered by plastic Terminator minis. If you consider current Necrons “inspired by” the Terminator, then there’s a lot of leeway for any humanoid robot with a skull face to count. And my main point is people voting g for Modular Robots likely wouldn’t expect not-T-800s, which are not Modular and wouldn’t fit in such a kit. So far no one responding thought Modular Robots would include Terminator style robot skeletons.
3. No, you made my point for me. If you think that tiny slice of the Germans market hadn’t been catered to before, what the hell do you call the Sci fi robot market? Other than GW and SW Legion and the Terminator, what plastic robot kits exist for Sci fi gamers? You’re arguing the same line as Stargrave couldn’t succeed because Cadians exist, that the market for aalllllllll of sci fi can’t support a generic robot kit while specific German jackets can pay for plastic tooling. Do you believe the market for each interpretation of robot likely from this kit is smaller than the market for “...and these other Germans”?
4. So your solution is for them not to make any robots and leave the potential market untapped? And WGA has already shown they know how to weigh in customer feedback on design decisions. They haven’t made a Poochy yet.

I'm down for a pretty broad range of "modular robot" kits, anyway. Dude sized? Ogre sized? Wild mix of locomotion options? Whatever, it's all good.
After looking at their approach to the lizardman set, I have a hard time imagining them doing a modular robot set that either wasn't useful for at least something in its own right or for a variety of conversion work.

Another roman preview. Thoughts?
Vegetius would not be pleased to see these legionaries entering battle wearing fur Panonnian hats and not their helmets! The properly helmed legionary in back prepares to launch his plumbata lawn dart style at the approaching Goth horde.
Our first set in the Decline and Fall range - Late Roman Legionaries (1): Lorica Hamata will be with us soon and supplemented with a massive Army Builder set. Legionaries (2) is also in the works along with unarmored legionaries and a variety of their opponents!
Painting and scene by Matthew Leahy.

Flavius Vegetius was neither a soldier nor a historian so the value of his book De Re Militari is dubious. Still, it is the only Roman military manual to survive to the present day, so it has some value as a primary source.
As for the figures, I would build them with helmets, not the fur caps. OTOH, if Vegetius is against fur caps, then wearing fur caps may very well be the correct military decision!

Wut? It is insane to me that more people voted for Landsknecht ogres than the sci-fi options, and I'm primarily a fantasy player.
I guess WGA should get ready to sell single boxes to RPG players while the army builders "wait for ranged, cavalry and command" before "committing."
