Why won't my villagers take the job I want them to have? They are brand-new out of my breeder, non nitwit, no other jobs around.
I've previously stocked a trading hall with villagers from this breeder but had lots of jobs down so they cross jobbed (my Smith behind my fishing barrel, my farmer behind my lectern, this armourer behind that armourer's thing so a lot of them wouldn't restock). I tried to do one, one this time to prevent it and no jobs are being taken, even after days in game.
Bedrock, 1.16, Realm if that helps
Edit : beds. I hadn't gotten around to decorating the houses so nothing had a bed, so the villagers weren't working correctly.
I built one at spawn if you want to see the design. the villagers I had running it managed to die so it would take 3 villagers to get it started again. are there any new enchantments or villagers in this update? and is it out yet
See this link above for the full details of the update.
Although they have provided the option to migrate old worlds, many of you have indicated a world reset would be good for a fresh start and to make it easier to experience all the new things.
I won't have any time to look at upgrading or resetting the server until the weekend at the earliest (and even then, no promises), but it may be best to wait until the weekend in case any hotfixes are released in the meantime.
I will keep a backup of the current world and if/when there is a good option for transferring large structures between worlds, I would be open to restoring builds from the old world into the new on request.
As for player inventories, I'll be happy to transfer those over once per player. So if you want to pack up your entire estate into shulker boxes and move, or if you want to start completely from scratch, that's up to you.
Nothing is final yet of course. I'm happy to listen to any discussion about how we handle this update. Let me know your thoughts!
I vote for a reset. I wont lie, one of the reasons I dont really play anymore is that the world feels, well, explored. Everything on the map has been discovered, the End is no longer a mystery and the unique resources are all but gone. Most of the land is claimed and whilst the structures are amazing (things like The Tower of Ralph and The Ice Messa are frankly incredible) most of the ground is built on, and a lot of those structures are, themselves, now largely abandoned.
Furthermore there have been a lot of updates now, and the very nature of worldbuilding has changed. Worlds look different, feel different, and our old one is showing its age, with obvious patches applied here and there (no offence Dark, you have worked wonders on this ancient map).
Worlds now generate in a superior manner. The majority of the current playerbase have had nothing to do with, and probably cannot even remember, the founding of the server and the construction of the current Spawn Hub and its surrounding areas. The mass of old, preexisting, structures forces new players further and further out from the community hub, making travel times longer and in turn reducing community interaction.
The old is good and some should be preserved, but in this case the new needs to be let through.
Free from GW's tyranny and the hobby is looking better for it

I am also very much in favor of a reset. I would love to help rebuild the hubs at Spawn, in the Nether, and possibly even the End.
The one big drawback to the current world is the feel that it was built up and abandoned long ago.
How big do we want the Spawn hub to be (x cubes by y cubes)? We're going to want room for comfort items like basic farms, trading, etc., but how much and what things? Personally, I'd like to include some "wandering" villagers just to make Spawn feel lived in.
Also, is it possible to place a Stronghold near-ish to the new Spawn so we can set up both Nether and End portals nearby?

Hmm, I am still favouring a migration, but maybe a limited one?
I do get that a lot of the old world isn't much use any more. Would it be possible to essentially delete a bunch of the old world, then migrate? Or is it easier to just copy over big structures case by case? If so, let's just do that.
I'm for a reset, for much of the same reasons Master of Ordnance stated. A new, shiny, unexplored world where everything is all new. Maybe put a temporary border on it that can be expanded when the next update comes out? I like the idea of being able to bring along some inventory, but all I really need/want are some shulker boxes. Trying to hunt the damn things in the End is just a PITA.
Generally, though, I'm in favor of whatever creates the least amount of work for Darkinnit.

I'm packed and ready for whatever comes.
If anybody needs some shulkerboxes, I've put my extra boxes in a chest inside the dormitory building at spawn.

Looking forward to the reset. As always, thank you Darkinnit, much appreciation to you for keeping the Dakka minecraft server alive, so some members have an outlet to unwind and relax in our lives.
I will forever remain humble because I know I could have less.
I will always be grateful because I remember I've had less.

Ooh thank you! Gonna try to get packed down on Sunday.
Ian Sturrock wrote: Is there a best way to pack stuff up? I don't have any shulker shells...
I recommend you pack stuff you can't replace easily as well as stuff you'll need once the server is reset. Keep full shulker boxes on your personal inventory. Don't put anything critical in an Ender Chest.
Oh, everyone grab beacons so we don't have to spend a lot of time making new ones.
ok, i'm packed up and ready, I still think we should hold off til 1.19 for the reset so we have a easier time finding wardens and their cities. but if everyone else wants to do it now, lets go for it.
Ah it was mostly about wanting to get back to where my stuff was so I could ensure it was in inventory! Figured it out by dying without a bed and teleporting to Spawn that way...
@Tannhauser, many thanks for the shulker boxes! For the moment, my daughter and I grabbed 10 each of the ones that were there, leaving none, BUT if that's too many, let me know and I will drop some back to Spawn. I believe that Darkinnit is working on a way to get us more publicly accessible shulker boxes a bit more easily. Either way I will return yours to you after the reset, if not before.
Whoops, missed the cutoff to pack, and now I'm updated and the server isn't - ah well. I don't know that I'd really play much if I couldn't bring my city over anyway - too much invested in it to start over.

Funny part, my install didn't update to 1.18 because I have Optifine installed, so I was still on 1.17.
@Ian: No need to return the shulkerboxes to me, they're purely extras. My inventory is already almost full of shulkerboxes. I didn't really realize just how many I had.

Nothing firm yet, but hopefully this week. However, what I will probably do is keep the current server running on 1.17.1 and launch the new 1.18 alongside it. So people who are still packing their possesions can choose when they want to move.
You probably also don't want to be carrying your entire possessions into the new uncharted server and then bump into a creeper or three. So you might want to find a dirt hole in that perfect scenic spot and then request the inventory transfer.
Also this may help later when moving builds is an option, you can log in to the old server to confirm the location, boundaries etc or just refresh your memory of what you had.
