I was just curious as to what you guys did for SM conversions, I understand they dont have the same potential as chaos or something like that but Im looking to win best painted with my new SM army at a GT(or at least RTTs) my painting might be up to standard once I get the color scheme down, but.... I was almost thinking about doing a whole Legion of the Damned army and puttying all of the bones and fire onto the new marines, but I think that an army with black as its primary color will have problems winning, not to mention Id like to win with the army in games as well and havent heard much about the new LOD unit(sternguard or termies seem best). I know about the Grey Knight Termie head thing and will probably do that on my termies if not the normal marines, but beyond the puttied purity seal or head swap I can't think of any conversions without going amazingly crazy.

Im not all that great with green stuff but I'm decent, so anything like model your own primarch and use it as a chapter master is out. I was thinking maybe I could putty my chapter symbol on the right shoulder pad and the other symbol(tac, elite, etc..) on the left, and then converting the bases pretty heavily or at least making them look really good, as well as converting combi weapoons and straps and stuff.

Anyway any input you guys can think of or anything anyone has done would be really helpful. Like I said Im not looking for OMG THIS CONVERSION IS CRAZY type stuff, but noticible small stuff that looks good and fits would be great.
Thanks alot

When it comes down to it, marine conversions are 90% kitbashing.
a arge selection of frames makes it easy to change a model beyond recognition.

love LotD, great potential, winning on painting all comes down to the flames, bones andother such querky things.

mixing DA and templar marine kits will work amazing, the hooded robes would make amazing troos, and all of the details in the templars kit just adds to it.
but you would need to keep to a solid theme.

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.

I always had an awesome idea for a legion of the damned squad. i wanted to buy either undead skeltons or possibly necrons and hack them into parts. then i was gunna bore out the SM's power armour and carve bullet holes and blasts holes into the armour. then put the undead parts into the appropriate parts. that way you could see the bones and whatnot threw the holes in the armour. thatd be an awesome convertion for SM without going too crazy. its looked great too
