I sat down today to assemble 1 drop pod and my 3rd Dread and a Land Raider. Found it would be interesting to show some shots.....
I'm going for a little ride to Milwaukee GW store to babble and paint Drop Pod. I'm priming it now. Find it quite easier to prime and paint/wash interior pre-assembly. Maybe that's just me. Lots of tight spaces......
More pics soon.

My plan is to prime it white. Paint chainmail, wash badab black, wash armor gyphonne sepia and dry brush bleached bone.
I'm 2-3 DP's for Death Wing and 5 for Ultramarines.

Man, I'm with Iorek on that one. I've been curious how many fiddly bits make up this thing. Looks like it's going to take up quite a bit of time to paint for what ends up being a static display piece that is only on the table for half the game. Not saying that I won't end up with a handful of them... I'm just sayin...

I think I'm with you, Augustus.
Though at $30 a pop, it is a bit of a shame to do it that way...
And with the KP fiasco that goes along with them, I might not end up getting any at all!

By gluing your door shut you are violating the new LOS rules. By rule the drop pod opens up when landing and all the occupants are ejected. It is them an immobile vehicle. This is now the official GW model and by the look of it I can now see through it and consequently shoot through it as well. If you played with drop pods that had doors glued shut on them I would say "Fine, but I am shooting through them anyways."
Hey, I understand that it looks like there is alot of crap to be glued and painted inside of the new drop pods. Honestly, there is! I have assembled and painted several of the prereleased models for my local gaming store. I would encourage everyone to take their time assembling and painting these new kits. The end results are worth it!

Began painting. Very time consuming and I'm just doing basic. I see no reason to go into super detail with these things.
Prime white, paint chainamil, and badab black wash. Next up Gyphonne sepia with bleached bone drybrush.
These are for my Death Wing Dreads.

Well, who is to say the pods dont close back up after the marines get out, you know like glued shut doors on other vehicles? You never shoot through the open doors on a rhino right?
They would look pretty neat opened up though I bet...
OH YES, and Good Painting, looks cool!

If you leave out the fiddly bits, is there enough room for a Dread or at least look decently like a Dread Pod?

The doors aren't big enough for a dread to fit through :S

Actually, you've got it backwards, person-with-appropriate-name. In this case you would be the one breaking the rules.
By attempting to shoot through a pod with closed doors you would be breaking line of sight rules.
There is no rule that requires the doors to stay open. A person can glue the doors shut upon assembly with no effect in game terms. So your opponent would be in the clear.

And in the battle report that is how they played with them. With the doors closed. (Plus if you didn't thats an 18" diameter thing that you cannot get within 1" of, would make it totallyt broken if you planted it on an objective.)

With some gentle pressure you can bend the floor down alittle and insert harness/stantions.
I did not glue mine.
Some dry brushing and assembly to go.
