I am new to 40K 5th ed. I a currently working on a SOB/WH,DH army. My books should arrive soon, forgive me for using wrong names.
I looked at other SOB army lists: Why no Exorcist and Seraphim squads?
I am really bad at choosing wargear. I would like to learn the game and enter a local turnament.
Is it better to have smaller units of battle squads. I have 10 models: leader, special weapon and heavy flamers.
I have a heavy weapon unit 4 h bolters. A celestian squad with a multimelta. currently I can put together 3 immolaters and 1 rhino. From other listings I have learned , I should protect my backfield. Any input will help. Your favorite use of the units. - thanks Resinmann

wait wait wait wait... huh..?

Well, you should focus on the 24"- range, try to make an army that will kill anything that gets 24" or closer, that fits in with the masses of melta, and flamer weapons that the sisters can bring to the table (hehe get it? bring to the table?... yeah?... (depressed sigh) never mind) and the CC power of the grey knights.

If your facing Nids or chaos though, My nid and chaos friends always cry when I bring a vindicare to the fight, killing demons, and MC, with its ability to fire at specific members of a squad, and its ability to fire into close combat... he is a scary proposition.

Thanks for the shootie info:
What about the Exorcist and Seraphim squads.?
Immolater with heavy flamers or multimeltas?
Heavy weapons in sister battle squads (y/n)?
I don't normaly use assassins, too cheezie. I always hated the one who impersinates the model next to my commander. But A shootie assassin more, is not as bad.

Stjohn has a SOB tactica article, I think on this website although perhaps on warseer.com? He is a noted top flite SOB, I mean SOB player!

Go to the Bat Reps section of DAKKADAKKA. St.john's exploits at LV GT are chronicled there, he is SOB. He used 11 Immolators. Find out why on his posts (hint, the flamers ignore cover...). Blackmoor, I believe used either a DH army or a SOB army with the more classical 3 Exocrist SOB setup. Again, search Bat Reps.

Stelek, under DOB has a footslogging SOB list posted.

Stelek also went 5-0 (with one tightly contested almost drawn, won by tiebreaker, etc, game) with a DH army using DH, IG, and SOB all in one army at LVGT. Its all described under the Bat Reps section.

Don't say 'cheezie'. There are effective armies and there are less effective armies. Don't blame your opponent for wanting to give you a challenge.

Finally, you want to play DH. Buy 5 Landraiders, two Inquisitors, and 3 heavy support Landraiders and two IG troop squads. That's your army, especially if you like painting tanks with an airbrush as opposed to the smaller infantry figures....

You are scaring me a bit now. Go to Dakkadakka.com, go to Forums, go to Warhammer 40k, go to Battle Reports, go to search window, search LVGT; that's short for Las Vegas Grand Tournament, scroll through until you see Stjohn70. Alternatively, go to member list, look for st, find all of Stjohn's epistles, look for 'topics started by Stjohn70.....

I played against DH last night, an almost pure Grey Knights force. One Landraider Crusader, one landraider. Two squads of Grey Knights, about 7 each with 2 psycannons each, 2 Rhinos with a squad of Inquisitorial Storm Troopers each, and a squad of about 5 Grey Knight Terminators.

Pure 'Grey Knight Terminator' armies under 4th edition were reputed to be 'suck knights' for 'masochists'. But, if you compare the above armies to Stelek's Black Templars (members, Stelek, posts started by Stelek, Stelek's black Templars) you see similarities, namely two good assault squads, the Terminators and Grey knights with force weapons charging out of landraiders.

Tactics: Landraiders advance on turn one and blow smoke or not depending on threat. Power of the machine spirit lets you fire 2 weapons at independent targets (although I think the BS is lower for DH Landraiders when they do so, but not the new space marines???). A landraider can move 12, deploy a nasty assault squad 2 inches, who can then charge ?? Gives you a huge threat radius. The ISTs can tag behind the Landraiders out of sight, or flip IST's into the Landraiders, use Landraiders as a forward firebase, Psycannons to rear as long range firepower.

Terminators are nice as a reserve to deep strike in missions where you might need to contest an enemy's home objective......
