Ok so this was my first attempt at a conversion. The painting I think is a bit better than the Harlies I posted but I am sure it still needs some work.

The idea is the avatar cut the CSM army off, clipped the pack, grabbed the head picked him up and cut him in half and is holding him up for GLORY!! HAZAA. My favorite part was doing the "Bloody hand of Kane" in which I just spilled blood redo n the hand/head of the CSM.

gotta hand it to you, you have talent when it comes to cinematic and dramatic poses and gore.

1 tip for gore ive found works, mix up some sand with pva and apply that, gives the gore a nice meaty feel to it.

I like it... make is seem like you could eat it .. hah

this is amazing I like it. But, and this is just me, It looks a little complexe color wise. Like 'skittel elder'. but it is amazing.

I don't think your painting is as bad as certain other people seem to think, it's just that your lighting for the photos is way too bright.

nice, it could use some hot glue guts and if you put fresh paint on and then put some super glue on it and pull it away it gives it the minced flesh look

Take this for what it's worth. You certainly have some interesting ideas. However, I think they're a little over done. I like the idea behind your avatar conversion, but the gore is overdone, IMO, to the point where it kind of overpowers the figure.

Regarding the painting. The flash certainly doesn't help. Look for a couple of tutorials at taking pics of minis. However, you could give the entire figure a good washing to give it some shading and definition. I'd probaby wash the entire figure in paynes grey and then highlight the pieces back up. Alternative, you can highlight the greys, silvers, greens, and reds with Badab Black and the golds and bronzes wiht Devlan Mud.

Don't worry man Ill take it for what its worth and you don't need to preface with IMO, its obviously your opinion otherwise you wouldn't be saying it. heh

Ill have to give those painting suggestions a try.

i love the whole thing your doing with the conversion and wat you were going for, but give a bit more definition on the space marine, cuz it looks like a lump from a far. paint him out to see some shap in the armor etc.
as for the avatar, i love how you picked out the detail in the armor, give it a subtle wash and work from there to see how you want it to look.

looks good, but give your painting some practice too.

evil and gory... i like! But it is a bit hard to see the space marine from the first two angles...

gross and yet sweet, i just think that abit more effort needs to be put into the painting part of it

not bad, maybe a bit to much of the gold and bronze, but otherwise, not bad.

Yeah, the painting could use a bit more work (what am i saying, if I did it it would be a black blob with two gold strips on it...) but I love the actual conversion

i like it. seriously if some poor csm ran into an avatar thats what would happen. i think that ones lucky that he has some meat left. but i agree with the washes. washes not only add some really nice depth to minis, but also if you dont like your painting skills, washes are a great way to dull it down. really look into washes they are great.

I think the flash is probably magnifying the inate brighness of all the metallics you're using, which is further increased by what seems to be straight (e.g., no wash, no flat base) application of the metallics to your primer base. You may want to experiment a bit with taking photos in different lighting environments.
