My first large scale project (getting excuses in early! )

Abandoned Ship

A jetbike, without handles, on top a soup tub on top a candy tub.

Abandoned ship ladder

A large binder thing which will be attached tot he soup tub by sprue bits most likely. A bit of plasticard will make the top walkway and I'll probably stick a zombie/skeleton it to represent the unlucky pilot who didn't quite make it.

Control Tower

A friends bubbled tower he gave me on top of a food tub. I'm going to get another one of the tubs and stick some plastic door stops in it to make a ramped landing pad. May need a top part too?

Generator?

Made out of a car lamp I found by the kerb. Will maybe have crashed ship in it.

Hangar

Styrofoam packaging broken. Will make rubble out of.. rubble and sprue bits.

Rubble

A tyre, some red plastic and a bit of electronica.

Terminal

Styrofoam packaging with a couple of small oriental figures on top.

Various odds and ends

The large plastic thing is a photocopier toner cartridge which will be a crashed xeno dropship.

Dunno yet.

The bottom half of a damaged Dalek soap container. Not sure where I will go with this yet.

I work a lot with found materials as I'm inexperienced/useless at clay modelling. I also intend to do a monorail with a crashed train as well, as soon as I find suitable trash. Though I may have to buy them. :( I'm so mean!

Any tips or constructive comments welcome.

Tough call as you have not done anything yet??????
Your other topics give no indication of your skill level.

I find that the trick with these junk bashing terrain projects is to just get them done!!
Grab your basing material, some no more nails, pva, sand/ flock, cheap paint and get it done!!!!!

You can always go back and embelish a project with more details later on!

To me this looks like you want something to game on not a bedroom full of junk!!!!

Sounds like you're planning on lots of wrecked ships. Might want to rethink that as you're making a spaceport, not a junkyard. While I think the pieces might be nice, it might not all come together as a nice composite piece.

Yeah, had much the same thought. Finish one piece at a time. I have trouble focussing, so this will maybe help. Order of work (in my head - subject to change)

Rubble pile (just preparing the base and gluing down)

Abandoned Ship (just need to paint up, attach the ladder, attach the top walk and affix the corpse)

Terminal (Finish painting building, remove one statue head, attach statues)

Everything else.

I've been reading articles on better lighting for pics, so they should improve too.

Is three wrecked vehicles (two ships and maybe one monorail) too much?

EDIT: May do a rail line instead of a monorail, I've found that spare track in my local hobby store is cheap enough.

I guess i'd ask if you've just made some quick mock ups, even drawings on paper and laid them all down on the table to see how they'd all go together and mesh size-wise and style-wise. Seems like you've accumulated a bunch of neat components. Slap them together on the table and see if they come together like you've envisioned.

Taking better pics tonight, will upload them tomorrow. Done a lot of work on the Terminal, Take off pad and mounted up the Energy wotsit.

Below is a plan from above of a possible final layout.

[

I'll probably move the rail line between the terminal and the take off pad/landing pads which makes more sense.

Overlit (deliberate because black on black is a bugger to see into) Terminal with Sm for scale. White bit in corner is styrofoam wall.

Progress (and moderatly better pics)

Terminal

I know I said I would concentrate on one thing at a time, but that's before I realized I was out of grey paint and that glue takes an age to dry!

I like the Take-off Tower and ladder and the terminal has potential I think. But as someone already stated don't use too much rubble.

Also I would think that only the military/navy has access to space ports in 40k so maybe some defensive structures(flak guns, defense lasers) would add to the space port feel. But I don't know if that's true.

Can't wait to see more

Yeah, I was thinking of that too.

Also (after looking at the Indian Space Mission), I may need to add a trackway from my hangar to the take off tower.

Getting there. Most big pieces 90% done. Same with the smaller pieces. Only a Crane and a 'slipway' model to start.

Ruins. Only undercoated so far. Reading something on these boards by a service man who said that most ruins have girders and rubbish piles and wild dogs, etc. That's the look i'll be going for.

There is a clear line through the rubble, with 'impossible terrain' on either side, giving players the option of concentrating forces in one spot or making them go around.

bugger, forgot the picture showing the birds nest I made. Oh noes.

Power Station

Phew, almost done.
