I have a beginners battle day thing at a games worskhop by me and its up to 1k points. what do you guys think?

Take two units of 20 gnoblars if you can, instead of one unit of 24. That should put you at 995 pts; and more units is almost always better.

I'd rather see a butcher in there than a maneater, but at this points level a butcher might not be very effective.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.
