So here is about my 20th attempt at a dwarf list. My goal is to build a 2,000 point army that includes; Longbeards, Ironbreakers, slayers and a flame cannon. *Sorry, I realize how rude this part was and I apologize if I offended anyone." Are the characters too cheap? would it be worth spending more points on them? Is it a terrible idea to play without a lord level character? Would replacing a thane with a runesmith be a better idea? Is that really enough shooting? Would a third unit be better? Is 15 enough slayers make a difference, would a dragonslayer be a good idea? I really like the flame cannon, but I realize it's probably worse than the organ gun. Is it so much worse that it really makes a difference?
Thanks for your help.

if you think guns are for cowards, you are playing the wrong army. shooting is the dwarfs strong pint, and if you don;t use them your not using your biggest asset. if you want to win through combat, then play Chaos or brettonia.

I am a Utah man sir, I live across the green, our gang is the jolliest that you have ever seen, Our co-eds are the fairest, ans each one's a shining star, our yell you'l hear it ringing through the mountains near and far.
Who am I sir? a UTAH MAN am I. A UTAH MAN sir, I will be till I die.

KI-YI

Were up to snuff, we never bluff were game for any fuss, no other gang of college men dare meet us in the MUSS. So fill your lungs and sing it out and shout it to the sky, we'll fight for dear old Crimson for a UTAH MAN AM I!!

GO UTES!!!!

That's a pretty average amount of dwarf shooting to be honest, you'll be fine with that. If your morals will allow it, take an organ gun rather than a flame cannon, unless you're playing skaven or goblins, organ guns are deadly. I'm actually building a strikingly similar list to yours at the moment, so I hope it works! Check out the bugman's brewery forums for some great dwarf related advice.

Opinions are like arseholes. Everyone's got one and they all stink.

I will switch to an organ gun, I realy like the flame cannon but I don't want to risk handicaping my army over it.
Do you have any advice on how to spend the extra points?

Miners without the anvil seems kinda pointless to me, especially with only 8 of them.

You do realize that you can take 20 hammerers for less than the 20 longbeards right? and they have shields, GW and are stubborn already oops they are 35 points more but are a much better unit

you need more than 1 spellbreaker rune if you only have 1 priest, 5 dice +1 scroll isn't enough against any decent magic phase

I haven't used slayers myself but seems like they would have a huge target painted on them for enemy shooting, course if they shoot them they don't shoot your infantry

I think at least 1 thane should be upgraded to a thane of pain, giving you someone to challenge with

Hope that this is useful

Q: Isn't it not allowed to have two identically runed thanes?

This is very similar to the list my friend runs (granted, we've only played at the 1.25k level thus far), though he opts for a grudge-thrower over the flame cannon - that thing can be quite deadly. Can't say I know much about the efficacy of the flame-cannon, but I can tell you that a solid grudge thrower hit can be quite devastating. Granted, if you're no good with guessing, your mileage may vary.

Hammerers are quite good. It's hard enough to break a unit of Dwarf elites, but tack on stubborn and they'll hold your lines pretty much forever.

Depending on what you're facing, a lone Dragonslayer can be a huge pain in the arse for the opponent (from personal experience).

Drop the miners (8 guys will do nothing for you), drop one of the two thanes.

Use the points to get a second cannon or a grudge thrower and use whats left to kit out your remaining thane more effectively - four characters is nice at 2k, but not a necessity (esp. with dwarfs)

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

A) Normally it would be against the rules to use the same rune combination, but since the only rune I'm using is the rune of stone I'm ok. The rune of stone is an exception to the rule of pride and can be used alone on any number of characters.

I'm pretty set on the ironbreakers over the hammerers, but if slayers really won't be very helpful I guess I could sadly let them go. I'm set on using miners-if 8 isn't enough, would 10 or 12 be a better idea? I was thinking that 8 miners could probably take out at least one war-machine and maybe even hang around to contest a corner later on, am I wrong? I would love to include the anvil in this list, it's just so hard for me to find enough points to include it, I love the model and everything it does for the army. I hate to see the slayers go, when is it appropriate to use slayers? Is there a list that uses them well? They are my favorite part of the dwarf army, I like them enough to build the entire army around them-is there a way to do that competitively?

Thanks again for all the advice.
