Reviving my old post - I am selling these guys off now:

Latest photo here:

Haven't posted anything here for a while (thinking back, I start nearly all my annual threads with that line), and I recently got into PP's new CMG Monsterpocalypse. I can say, it's a helluva lot of fun. Get a few friends together and split a few boosters and starters, that's all you'll ever need to have loads of fun doing weird and wacky things like hurling your enemy into buildings, tossing them into their own units etc etc. I have started collecting the GUARD faction (Good-guy Human types) and I sat down and painted my entire force. Had a full game with them as well, but sadly didn't get any photos of that wonderful moment when DefX (the big robot guy) hurled Yasheth (Cthulhu) down nearly the entire length of the board.

I really enjoyed painting these miniatures up. There is really an astounding amount of detail on these miniatures (for prepainteds) and with a little care and effort they can be made to stand out very well. The sculpts are very characterful, and I can't wait to collect a force of Martians and start on them. Comments and criticisms appreciated!

Cheers

P.S This is actually quite an achievement for me, and it's probably my second fully painted *ARMY*, after that hideous abortion I called my Vampire Counts a good 7-8 years back.

I think it looks pretty good. Especially for the scale it will be played on. The huge robots look awesome.

There is a little disconnect for me though because I don't know what these models look like prepainted. Maybe some links to the company website?

And, if it's not too much of a thread distraction, what is Monsterpocalypse like?

@Typeline

First pic is a "before" pic of the units. They had metallic paint gobbed all over them.

If you want a good idea of what Monsterpocalypse like, then I highly recommend listening to the D6 Generation Podcast (see link in Dakka News) which goes into it in a lot of detail. Suffice to say, you can do loads of funky things in it, and it really captures the feel of giant monsters/robots duking it out in the middle of a city, and all the tiny little tanks/choppers etc buzzing about trying to get in a shot edgewise.

The mechanics are easy to learn, and once you've learned what the special abilities of your various units are, the game plays pretty quick. The game I spoke about in the OP lasted about 1.5 to 2 hours, and both me and my opponent had only 3 games under our belts each. The dice-shifting resource allocation system is very simple, and yet it keeps things interesting, and everything moves very quickly.

Cheers

Ahh ok I see. They do look ok out of the box I have to say but the repainting really makes them quite crisp.

Nice job, those models make sure you appreciate the sculpting quality of GW's team.

Also nice to see someone who can take fairly decent photos.

Also; why is Typeline's rank lesser daemon of Choas?

"That is THEIR stuff." "THEY'RE crappy converters."
"I put it over THERE." "I'll go to the store THEN."
"He knows better THAN that." "This is NEW." "Most players KNEW that."

I'm referring to the fact that it seems like the term should be Chaos, not Choas.

@gordino

Painting GW's models makes me appreciate the sculpting quality of Kev from Hasslefree Miniatures. These guys are on par with standard GW stuff, the difficulty arises from the paint already glopped onto the model itself.

For those who are interested, I've found an easy way of stripping the Monsterpocalypse minis...

EMA Plastic Weld aka dichloromethane

Just rub it on with a bit of tissue and the paint slides right off. The plastic underneath is non-reactive to the plastic weld, so go nuts.

Oh, weird. It's the automatic Chaos title the system gives you.

I was thinking of how you could strip them. I remember trying to strip some other things and they fell apart into flakes and good from pretty much everything. Nice to hear the stripping isn't a pain in the ass.

Any good US products for stripping these things? The Terrosaurs are painted pretty well, but yeah, the G.U.A.R.D. look like they were dipped in the stuff just about.

$25 for a starter kit that comes with 1 random monster, 4 specific units, 2 specific buildings, a two-sided play map, life counter, rule book, and enough dice for one person to play. Boosters are $13 and are either 1 random monster, or 4 random units plus 1 random building.

P.S. Six different factions with two different monsters for each faction currently. I hear the first expansion is due out Decemberish or something.
