Slightly odd topic here, and probably a bit of a mind bender....

What I want to explore is essentially the historical equivalent of Chaos Theory (you know, where a Butterfly flaps it's wings and ends up causing a Hurricaine like the unthinking, selfish little sod it is).

Essentially, I want people to pick a country (the more obscure the better really) and remove it entirely from Historical events. The others then research the history of said country, and postulate as to which events in History might not have come about, or may have had a very different outcome without said Country's involvement.

Said it was a bit of a mind bender. Now remember folks, as ever, this is just for fun. Debate over evidence etc is of course allowed, but getting all patriotic about stuff is not. Try to look at this dispassionately.

So this is an alternate history scenario?

Kind of yes, I think.

I'm just interested in exploring what role seemingly inconsequential countries play in World Events. Less so about what would/could have happened, as to what events might not have happened had said country not existed.

For example, Rome (when it was a country, or possibly a city state) without Rome, the world would be a very, very different place. Certainly, Christianity might never have got off the ground....

But I'm looking for teenier countries, like Patagonia, to pull one out the air!

Let's imagine that Vikings from Iceland successfully colonised North America during the 1400s. That would change history a fair bit.

Or let's imagine that a tiny and disunited island fights a century long war against the most powerful country in Europe, loses, and spends much of the next 200 years having civil wars and picking religious wars with the most powerful empire in the world. How might that turn out?
