OK, so GW is going to be releasing a Battlewagon model soon. How will this affect the scratch built rules? My understanding was thatyou can only scratch build for units that don't have models already. So now that the new battlewagon is comming out does this mean that scratch built BWs are technically no longer legal. Obviously between friends no big deal, but what about tourneys in the future?

Depends on the tournament. Some of the larger, more well-attended ones may have to make a ruling.

And with Drop Pods now being available, watch the websites for those events before you build 5 of either of those yourself.

the only likely problems are dimensions - if your scratchbuild is twice or half as long/wide/tall as the new official model, then tourney organisers and opponents may be grumpy about it. Of course, that gives your meks a good excuse to 'improve' your existing battlewagons to make them a little more standard-sized....

Thats what I don't like about it tho, Orks don't do standards.

My suggestion would be to use the basic frame of the battlewagon and then go crazy from there.

As long as it's roughly the same size, I don't see there being much issue with it because orks are, well, orks. Granted ork vehicles are all different, however, you still need to be able to fit all those boyz and all that dakka on there.

I agree with that. orks really DONT have a standard. there standard is the fact that everything is built from piles of junk.

I highly doubt anyone will ban scratch-built battlewagons. they have been a staple of ork play since first edition, even when they HAD a battlewagon kit.

if a tourney banned scratch-built stuff on a case-by-case basis, I suppose I could understand. but if they opted to do blanket bans on scratch built models, I suppose thats one less tourney to attend each year for me.

Here's the thing. Throughout 2nd-4th edition, you had scratch built dreads, kans, buggies, trakks, bikes and trukks, even though there were already figures for them.

Sometimes people want to show off their creativity, or have an idea they really want to execute. Sometimes people want to be cheap and scratchbuild/kitbash. Sometimes people just like having fun with the process of scratchbuilding.

Size might be an issue for tournaments, but my guess is not. If anything, the new wagons will cause more people to kitbash and scratchbuild, to make sure their wagon looks different.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil
