RAW give the orks a cover save. personally if faced with this situation i would give the ork player the cover save, remember that ork things work simply coz the think they do, so the kff should work even if the blast is inside of the kff

The question that arose in a recent game against orks. I destroyed a battlewagon with Big Mek and a squad of Boyz. Do the boyz and Big Mek receive a cover save? I am thinking that they probably do, but I just want confirmation.
KFF on Codex Orks pg. 34 says

A kustom force field gives all friendly units within 6" of the Mek a cover save of 5+

The Destroyed - explodes! rule in the rule book pg. 67 says

The unit suffers a number of Strength 4, AP- hits equal to the number of models embarked, treated just like hits from shooting

The rules for cover are in the shooting section of the rule book on pg. 21

... units in or behind cover receive a cover saving throw.

I would say yes they do get one

Thanks for the feedback. It initially felt wrong that a unit could get a cover save from inside a vehicle, but I guess the RAW are pretty clear.

A written, it seems they receive the cover save. It does seem counter to the KFF as a protective bubble. Especially in light of the previous codex where it had no effect within it's range. I guess ork tech has made some advances with time...
