Hey all,

Im thinking of doing a marauder based army for the new chaos. Lots of foot marauders with some of the new horsemen, and I am thinking of making it Celtic themed, much more mortal than chaos model and paint wise. Something like a roving band of pillagers that are just irate in the head because of chaos, not that they are chaos worshippers in themselves.

Therefore for my warhound models I am thinking of doing something more...mortal and alive I guess. The warhound models are just too twisted.

Does anyone know of a better dog model to use here? Goblin wolves just arent up to par. I dont mind feral or crazy looking, just not mutated.

Any thoughts also on what I could use as a stand in? I have to be honest I dont know a lot about the Celts, I just thought of this and was inspired by looking at some of the new models. What sorts of wild animals would they employ? I think Warmachine Panzerbjorn would be great trolls, but they might be too steampunk and the usual lack of poses would not look good. I also thought of using wild horses as there are plenty of good horse models, but I dunno. I also bought a bunch of the forest bases from back2basix, so something anything from the forest would work too.

Im going to be using the ultraforge giant to fit the theme, so while normally I try to stay very GW for tourneys, I think I am going to stray from that for now.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any help!

Brandon

other than those you have the plastic wolves that you mentioned or you will have to go with another company.

ZK- Ive never seen a mordheim hound, what band are they for? Do you know where I could find a pic?

ChaosDave - I actually thought about the Orion dogs as they are bigger than you would think from the picture (so is Orion, he is just on a HUGE base) that would be a bit expensive though. Right now that is my best option model wise though.

As for the LotR dogs, that is actually a good idea, although expensive as well (I say it here comparatively, but what beats $17 for five cav anyway...) I could even do them, since they are smaller, as swams on cav bases. I could get the plastic Bret dogs too.

Thanks for the help!

I know the dogs were associated with the human bands, and I did a google search but couldn't come up with any pics. Hopefully someone else knows what I'm talking about and can post a pic...

I don't even KNOW anymore.

The Mordheim Witch Hunters had the dogs:

(I think that link is OK - I can't access GW from work.)

Or you can try to get the old Marauder Miniatures Dark Elf dogs on EBay:

Ahh thats why I couldnt find them, they are part of a boxed set. I might have to try and snag a single one for variety.

Does anyone know if any of GWs horses have *no* saddles? I have touched just about every one and I cant think of any that dont have them except for wood elves. They might be a bit too...elegant for what I am going for though.

Thanks!

Yep, those were the dogs I was thinking of! They WERE available as a blister pack of about 3 dogs. Maybe they'll pop up on ebay if you're lucky...

There are dogs on the Bretonnian Men-At-Arms sprue. Not very big, but dogs.

The LOTR Wargs (plastic) are also very nice. They can be built without riders and look really cool for savage hounds. They may work well with this idea. They have a tuft of fur to go on their backs if you don't put a rider on them.

Avatars of War do a nice one, although a little costly.

Ran into this myself putting together a Mordheim Witch Hunter band.. I didn't like the one in the box set, it looks too goofy to me - not to mention the price tag when I wouldn't use half the other minis. I am thinking of getting the zealots just for the "mr. hat" guy & the one wielding a trout. The LoTR ones are kind cool but smaller than what I had in mind - WH warhounds are formidable so I wanted something a bit more imposing.. On the other hand the "Hounds of Orion" while available separately look like they're big enough to ride.

Then I found this noble-looking beast from Reaper and promptly ordered one:

It's part of their "Crusader" range. They also had another set of 2 dogs that looked more like Alsatians but I'm still searching if anyone has any ideas..
