Well, I'm making this blog as a sort of 'prompt' to get me moving on my army, and as somewhere I can verbalise ideas that are randomly swirling around in my head. So expect proto-fluff.

At the moment, I have purchased:
  • Dark Eldar Battle Force
    Dark Eldar Warrior Box
    Dark Eldar Lord
    Demonettes of Slaanesh
    Wild Warg Chieftain

  • Out of this, I'm hoping to get at least 20 warriors, an archon and 10 wyches.

So far I've done a lot of clipping, quite a bit of cleaning, and managed to glue two warriors together. Yes, I am exceptionally slow. I'm also trying to figure out how to do all of this, because I've never put a figure together before. I'm also very easily distracted and somewhat of a perfectionist; this is a bad combination, when I manage to clean the bits for 8 warriors in several hours and then only assemble 2 because I've decided I want to use different bits for them after all.

I also have quite a lot of conversions in mind, but am forcing myself not to try any until after I get my very basic '2 troops and a HQ' assembled, at the very least.

Combining DEs with Demonettes sounds like an interesting idea. I'm looking forward to see some pics.

The combination of Daemonettes and Eldar Guardians might also be very fitting. But ok, I'll keep my eyes on this thread and see where this will go.

Can we be expecting some pictures any time soon?

At the moment pictures would be rather boring, as I have stock standard warriors only. I'm planning to convert the demonettes to wyches and the warg is part of a major beastmaster character conversion I'm planning. I'll definitely need to add pictures when I'm trying to pull that off, so I'll have the ability to yelp for help.

Oh I thought you were going to convert the warriors as well to make them...well better looking than the original models.

    Oh, here and there.

I also used daemonettes for wyches. I'll see If I can't get pictures. I gave them all splinter pistols from the many sprues I had. I'll be watching this thread.

Yes, yes, I know I should have posted before know. I still lack a camera, which means no photos. This is frustrating. I even attempted to use a camera phone and only managed a vauge greenish blur. >.> Not good.

So far, I have 20 warriors totally complete, painted, based and vanished. I've gone for a greeny-blue colour scheme, with the armour based in hawk turquoise and highlighted up to ice blue, with a wash/glaze of asurmen blue over the top of that. It gives a vaguely blotchy, slightly organic look that I like. Spikes and blades are in mithril silver, and the base colour of the weapons is shadow grey. Bases are a mix of purples. I'll attempt to steal a camera at some point. Or cart models to a friend who owns one.

One of the reasons progress has been slow is because my warriors are my only unconverted models. <.< I think most of my jetbikes will go through with only some minor gapfilling and I'll save the conversion of them to squad leaders (and an dracon/dracite when I get around to it).

One very intense conversion is almost complete, and so far my favourite model in my army: my lead beastmaster. I started with the warg chieftain model and chopped the neck off. This took... well, way longer and was more frustrating than I thought it would be. After a test sculpt in plasticine to see if my ideas would work I started with the greenstuff. I took one of the warrior torsos and added it to the body at a slight angle, and built up the missing tissue below it to join it in to the warg. When that was all set, I added a thin layer of greenstuff over the top in small patches and sculpted fur into it. I ended up covering all the original torso except for the shoulder armour. One arm is the bent at right angles one from the warrior box, used to support the splinter cannon; I chopped the wrist off that and added the hand and gun off the splinter pistol arm. That meant I had a right hand joining to a left arm, so I did a bit more work to make it look like the hand was the right way around (and carving fingers into plastic is harder than I thought it would be). The other arm is from a dark elf beastmaster, holding a whip: the top of the arm was bulked up with greenstuff, and more was added to the exposed 'skin' areas so I could add more fur. The neck was sculpted and furred, and the head is one of the demonettes with the mark of slaanesh hairdo removed. New hair was sculpted although he's now got a mild dreadlock look. <.< Oops.

The base is a rock with a dead knight of gondor draped over it. I didn't want a knight, so he got chainmail covered over and shoulder pads and an eagle badge added to turn him into a cadian guardsmen. He still has a cloak, I'll have to figure out which guardsmen wear them. Maybe he can be a sniper. The warg came with a 40mm base but a DE beastmaster only has a 20mm, so I mounted the rock on the smaller base then bent one of the back legs so I could repose it. He's got some marks from the pliars on said leg now, but that can be painted with a dab of scab red in the gashes and it'll be slashmarks from something or other. The unattached leg was coaxed into an entirely wrong position and much greenstuffing used to fill the gap, so one paw is raised. Both front paws got sawn off and repositioned (for little parts, I've found cutting and resticking metal is easier than bending it). My only issue is that he's a bit too prone to toppling over right now. I'll need to add some washers to the base or something.

I've also got two lords on the go, with parts from a dark elf dreadlord being used (I loved the dragonette sitting on his shoulder).

Huzzah! This is digital, so postable!

Working on a design for my webway portals. I'm not sure if I'll use them much in a standard game, but I'm planning to build up to the Apocalypse matches held at my FLGS, and I know I'll want the WWP stategic asset for them.

    This is my design.

I'm planning to get it printed onto some cardstock, and probably give it a coat of vanish for a bit more protection. I can fit 6 onto an A4 sheet, and it'll cost me about $5 AU to have printed. I figure that's quite good value.

*nods* It's a small blast template. I did a blank test print, it is the correct size. For some reason it looks bigger on the net than it does when printed. Sort of an optical illusion- I've held the template up to the screen to make sure my browser wasn't inflating it somehow.

    Hurrah! I have a photo! (Finally <.< )

Played a 700 point match against a Blood Angel friend the other day. I've decided I quite like the Death Company; my pitiful squad of 7 wyches ate them for breakfast. My archon didn't even get in on it. And I took some prisoner. The idea of a space marine in the grips of the black rage fighting in the arena, slaughtering even other loyalist marines or pitiful guardsmen that I may toss in there, all for the amusement of the lords of Commorragh... it is just so wonderfully delicious...

    *shakes self briskly*

The battle itself was a close loss. Mephiston and a marine with a plasma cannon killed all bar 3 models. Grr. I blame my pitiful dark lances, who managed to kill one model the entire game (I had 4 of them and 3 were the second last things standing on the board).

    Hopefully some more images soon.

Do really fuzzy images count? I'm only linking these instead of uploading to my gallery because I intend to replace them ASAP. But, this is my beastmaster.

The right arm has been removed, I recently got a box of metal wyches and decided that it made more sense for the beastmaster to have the fancy whip. Unfortunately it is a left handed whip, so I'm currently converting it over. Also on the modelling table are 17 half finished metal and plastic wyches, that I need to add loincloths, shoulder plates and occasionally noses to.

I really hate trying to sculpt noses.

Looks interesting, but it's very difficult to tell.

And god, I also really hate trying to sculpt faces at all.

They might be taken with my cousin's Blackberry, but better than nothing.

And I suddenly see why people say one needs a light box. >.>

    A group of warriors.

One of my raiders. This is still a WIP. I can't work out what colour to do the trim on the tail, I've tried boltgun, mithril, thraka green and ice blue so far. The one currently visible is a rough, thin coat of dheneb stone. I'm thinking maybe a 1:1 mix of ice blue and dheneb stone may work, possibly glazed with a wash afterwards.

the_ferrett decided to test his camera skills on two of my miniatures, so I have at least some images. Unfortunately a few of them did turn out blurry and have omitted for the time being, including one I really wanted. Curses.

This is my completed beastmaster. You can see the blurry wip shots in an earlier post.

By far my favourite model in the army, and the most intense conversion work I have ever done. I think there are parts from 5 different kits in there, over all three major GW games ranges.

An interesting effect, and a lesson on 'why you should turn off the nearby red LED before taking a photo'.

Here is a little fun conversion. I'm working on a lab of beasties for my haemonculi, and thought some 'nids would fit in well. DE frequently hunt genestealers for the arena and I figure that some of the most animalistic ones could prove interesting once removed from the hive mind. So I had a random idea about putting some rippers in a cage. Then I started thinking that if they were in a cage, they wouldn't all be making the odd leaping pose the model comes in, especially if they were there for a long time. And if they were running on pure animal instincts, then with time and effort and a suitable training method (possibly a little carrot, likely very heavy on the stick) you might even get it obeying you.

Thus I present one of my haemoculi's favoured experiment, a trained ripper currently curled up and resting.

I'll try and get some other angles soon. I'm tempted to try and magnetise it somehow and stick it on the (currently WIP) haemonculi's skyboard. Have to find some way of giving it a collar or piercing chains through the carapace. Unlikely to actually count as any wargear, but the comparison to an attack squig is amusing. I'd want it removable so I can put him in the lab (if I ever get around to finishing it) and so I can remove him if playing tyrannids. There is no way training is going to overcome the re-established hive mind.

I still need to come up with a name for my beastmaster; I have some nebulous fluff for him, but can't really write it until I have a name.
