Hello, all!

Thumbing though some old, borrowed codeces for other armies, I saw that many troops offer up their services as mercenaries. I was wondering something: If you are wealthy enough and viscious enough, would you build up a species-spanning, Xerxes-like army to vanquish the enemies before you?

Could you?

If you were playing, say, Eldar, could you employ Krut troops and hire some Flash Gits to augment your forces? Is this sort of thing legal?

Just a thought. As you can tell, it's from someone who is not a seasoned veteran of the game.

Under the current rules:

1) Multiple Detachments
2) Using the Apocalypse rules
3) If your opponents approve of it

The only current "Allies" systems for regular/tournament play are the Inquisitional ones.

Fluffwise, it all depends on who you want to ally with who.

You can't do it under normal 40k rules.

A Codex that allows other units to use them would have an Allies rule in it, just as temprus
describes.

Can you take stormtroopers as witch-hunters allies in an IG army and count them as troops because they're Troops in a witch-hunters army?

It's better to simply be an idiot, as no one can call you on it here. -H.B.M.C.

"That is THEIR stuff." "THEY'RE crappy converters."
"I put it over THERE." "I'll go to the store THEN."
"He knows better THAN that." "This is NEW." "Most players KNEW that."

Yes.

They count as the Inquisitorial Stormtroopers in all respects, including scoring.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

Right, I forgot about that. Allies never count as core troops/HQ.

Yeah, I would do counts as using a parent list you're happy with...

For Example, if you were to use Orks as your base list:

Ogryn: counts as Kans or Meganobs
Kroot: counts as kommandos

Or if you were using Eldar (as in your example)
Kroot/Hrud etc. = Pathfinders.

Also: are you a rabbi, or am I misreading your handle?

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

So is the Kroot Mercs list dead then? Because they used to let everyone take them except for Space Marines, Tau, and Inquisition.
