Go with B. Whites generally an easier colour to photograph against. Also you cant tell where the floor ends and the wall begins

Pic a has a lot of sensor noise in the dark background.

Definitely picture b, but I would take the photo at a slight angle as horses somehow don't look right photographed straight on, especially when you can see all the way through their ribcages!

Change the angle of your light source, or the number of light sources. I use a single halogen desk lamp with the light plate removed. Turned up to max Insta-Kills shadows. Like taking an earthshaker to a Grot.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."

In a. your light seems to be better placed, but I don't like the black background it takes away from the photo. Looks grainy.

In b. The background is great makes for very clear lines. However the lighting seems to be off, as there are to many shadows on the models.

Seconded. Take the lighting from a. and the background from b. and you're there. Plus, as mentioned before, take the pic from a slightly downward and one-quarter angle rather than straight-on.

well being that i take pictures of parts i get in at my work we have a huge light box as you call it and ive been taking pictures for a year there now and i can tell you that black and white will be needed depending on the colors of your minis. black will almost always look fuzzy unless you have a program to make that go away like photoshop. what im trying to say is lighter colors work good with a black background and darker colors work good with a white background. thats what ive learned but i guess it depends on the camera also and of course the light that you use.
