Bat Country

This coming weekend I'm going to be playing a ton of rounds of 500 points games with some friends. There is going to be around 6 people all learning how to play and one experienced person answering questions for us. The field is pretty wide open with a wide array of armies. I'm playing VC and I'm not sure what I'm running yet but something like this is probably close to it.

10x Ghouls w/Ghast 88
10x Ghouls w/Ghast 88
10x Ghouls w/Ghast 88
Necromancer, extra spell (Vanhel's)
Vampire, Summon Ghouls, Dark acolyte, Nightshroud

I was wondering if my ghasts pumped up would be able to win any combats. Would they win if they got Vanhel's-ed to combat? Is armor on my Vampire Necromancer necessary in these low point games, for that matter is armor always necessary? Should I gear my vampire to be killing things rather than casting in low points? I know 500 is really low and I might get beat down pretty bad but we all just need to learn how to play.

Once upon a time, I told myself it's better to be smart than lucky. Every day, the world proves me wrong a little more.

I would drop the nightshroud for the flayed hauberk. Sure, you lose the 'enemy at I1' thing, but a 6+ armour save on your general... you don't want him being beaten up by basic infantry. Also I would merge the 3 units into 2 big ones, as the necromancer can't raise above starting unit str and the vampire will only have 3 dice to cast with (assuming one kept for the necromancer).

Here is a relist

Vamp, Dark Acolyte, Avatar of Death, Sceptre de Noirot, Biting Blade 180 pts
19x Ghouls, w/ Ghast 160 pts
20x Zombies 80 pts
20x Zombies 80 pts

Vamp goes with ghouls. Pumps zombies early game to rush the enemy front lines. Can mix it up in combat with good save and Biting Blade. Look ok? I don't have a Wight King model though, trying to get a hold of a mounted one to go with my black guard but still waiting.

i never take zombie in my main list. they just arent worth the points. raise big units of them by all means but dont bring them to the field instead of something else. your first army was much better.

taking up the mission

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?
