Decided to start a new bike army. Called them Sand vipers.
I have already a paint scheme but need a chapter-symbol. :S

proposed paint:
-main= scorched brown+kommando khaki
-secondary= scaly green+skull white+chaos black+codex grey
-bases= desert yellow+dheneb stone



Home world: a planet like tallarn, a endless landscape filled with sand

Attempt on colors:


use bleached bone as highlight for kommando khaki and use graveyard earth at scorched brown?


After some research in heraldic books, i found only 2 variants of an iconified snake.

i need a source for more symbols. Anything more useful than european heraldry?

edit: And now that I can see the pictures, I'm going to continue ranting on my current pet peeve of people not cropping pictures around to figs, and then not uploading the pictures direct to Dakka so I have to try and perceive a fig that shows up ~1/3" tall on my screen.

I like the second to last, the final one looks a bit too alpha legion...

i like the C symbol. it would be cool to have something like the nurge or khorne symbol with snakes coming out. or crimson fists like holding snakes. just my $0.02

Calling for 2' pictures in 2400x1600 ?

One good reason for imperfect uploads could be the fact of different ways to upload on every forum

A comes from heraldry,maybe to simplified to look good in black&white.

B is easy to paint. I know,not perfect.

C is a really challenge, was suggested to me but i have to take care with this. Could look like the apothecarys badge.(2 winding snakes).

D may drop this.

Don't think I'm picking on you specifically, it's just something I've decided annoys the crap out of me. That said, I poked around, found where you had uploaded your picture, and here's the difference I'm talking about in uploading cropped pics here, vs linking to somewhere else.

Even with the smaller size image you've got, it's still showing up a good 3x the size (at least to me) and is much easier to see the color scheme you're trying to show off.

I resist zooming into pics taken with mobile phones. They lack in resolution so much it hurts.

I didn't zoom though, I just cut out the extra stuff around the fig, and then uploaded it to Dakka, where it shows up at full normal size, rather than being shrunken down to a tiny size.

If the picture's small enough, it will all show up. If it's too big, then the forums will shrink it down to fit the page. Clicking on either will take you to a full size image.

Oh, and for the record, I like the color scheme.

yea just so everyone knows you have to not only be a supreme master of photography to take pics of your work, you also have to be a master at posting them TOTALLY perfect so the ones that are master dont have to bitch.

ANYWHO! i like the second idea for your symbol. it looks easy enough to paint and also it looks cool in its simplicity. AND i have to say nice colors man. very nicely put together they are

i like the halo cobra symbol, but here are 2 i like myself, one being just a snake and both being alittle complex but i like them any way and thought i might share them with you

Probably hallucinating. Sorry, off topic. I like the colour scheme, the fluff... I've always wanted a Tallarn army, and my last Space Marine lot very nearly ended up like your concept here. I've decided I'm going to do desert theme for a Tzeentch army one day... already painted the sorcerer. Will post if I find camera, motivation, cable for camera... in that order.

Some of the supposed icons may be more "cobra" than "viper" isn't it

A symbol to paint in a few strokes as option B or a difficult like C ?
Could use an easy shoulderpad variant and a "pimped" vehicle variant.
