Hey all,

I wanted to put this up for some C&C. Its my first real foray into using "grey stuff" (or greenstuff), and I'm looking for some tips, tricks, etc.

This is my attempt to build another Haemonculus that didn't look exactly like the other two I already have. I wanted to go with Destructor and Scissorhands (a common outfit in my army). So, without further ado:

Parts:
Daemonette body, head, arms
Necron Flayed One claw
scratch built and sculpted destructor (hand is sculpted around barrel, but probably hard to see in picture)
Body, robe sculpted with putty

I'm expecting that paint will cover up most of the booboos, including "scratchy" robes. I'm using a sharp blade and files to try to take off most of the offending areas, and soften it up. I also expect that basing will cover up some of the bottom of the robes, and make it look more natural. Actually, I'm hoping painting covers a bunch of sins.

I'd like to find out if anyone has tips for using grey/green stuff, how long before you say, sculpt folds, do you sculpt them over a flat base, then build up? Inquiring minds want to know. I knocked this up in a couple of hours, and had to continually go back to fix areas where I pushed my fingers into a sculpted area. I guess I didn't have the patience to let it dry before moving on (and what on earth do you do with all the extra grey/green stuff when you're letting a particular piece dry?

I'm going to finish it off by putting a Wyche left shoulder guard on its left shoulder, to tie it in and add a little more 'armor' to it.

So, feedback, suggestions, etc. welcome!

Very cool looking conversion. I love the look of that gun!

I'd change the nose on the daemonette to help differentiate it from the daemons.

As for how I'd change the nose- use a jewelers saw to cut an eldar/dark eldar bare head in half (so the face is one one side with a flat surface on the back). Use a file to slowly bring the flat surface closer and closer to the front of the face until there's just the nose and a bit of face around it left. Keep trimming it carefully until you have a tiny plastic nose :p

It's much easier to do small detail parts like that then to try and cut it off accurately with a knife.

Wouldn't it be easier to just make a tiny GS nose than trying to remove the head from one? It would be an impossibly small bit to handle.

Great work! That torso/leg section is really well done.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Thanks for all the comments! As I went along, working with the grey stuff was easier, but I think I need to be a lot more patient with it. And maybe do multiple sculpts at the same time.

The nose idea is a great one, unfortunately I had already primed and started painting before I read the feedback. I was concerned I couldn't blend it in to make it look right. So here are the painted pics as updates (sorry for the poor quality).

As always, C&C welcome...

Actually for me its been following a lot of the threads on Dakka in the P&M Blogs. I keep waiting for that 'aha' moment (or when someone posts a step by step tut on how to actually sculpt - how long to wait before attempting to manipulate it - how long to wait before adding more gs, etc.)

I had worked on gap filling before with GS, milliput, etc., but hadn't tried to sculpt anything. Like I mentioned, I did this in one sitting, which was a mess, since I kept squishing things, and bending them out of wack as I held it.

I found that when I went back several hours later, and layered more GS on, it went much better. That, and the longer I actually worked with it, the easier it became.

Thanks for all the comments.
