Ok, I've gotten around to painting some of the FW resin Dreadnought arms I've got. If I had the hair...I'd be pulling it out right about now. I got the pieces prepped by clearing off excess resin and I'm fairly happy w/ the look of the pieces. When I started to use some Acrylic primer, which I use on everything else, I noticed the primer wouldn't stay put but would pool back together. After some exhaustive and repetative brushing I finally got one piece primed. Starting the second arm, a Lascannon, I was unable to get the primer to stay down so finally brought out a can of enamel spray primer and took care of it. Am I missing something here? Is there so little porosity in resin that it's just this difficult to deal with? If anyone has a solution I'd really appreciate the input.

Did you wash the pieces is soapy water first? Your problem might be that the resin pieces still have releasing agent that the use to get it out of the mold. You can kind of tell if it is all shinny and maybe has a slippery feel.
I have never tried to base my resin by hand I have always used a spray can.

I did on the first one...I may have forgotten the second. I'll try again, can't believe I may have forgotten that.

I don't know what realease agent FW uses, but working with composite aircraft structures, I know I used some pretty heavy duty realease agent in their repairs. You might want to try wiping them down w/some paint thinner just in case, then soap & water. Anyway enamel isn't a bad thing thats just about all I use, especialy for airbrushing

i've had issues with the deathguard dread - washed him several times & even used a surface prep solution from pheonix (which melts resin btw :( ) but it still resisted paint. the same happened on my macharius - i've even tried scrapping away parts of the bodywork (can't on the dg dread as it's in the detail) but still no 100% joy - i think there must be something in the resin itself.
i've not had this issue before & i got quite a bit of resin (inc the original baneblade) so i'm not nieve to the joys of FW stuff!

I had a very tough time working with the FW resin, I tried every technique out there. Here you can find all the stuff I tried. I'm not looking forward to building my Reaver... Well, I am, but not to the cleaning/painting part.

What is it with FW resin lately? I've not had any problems with it, but I have not bought any in recent times. Anyone care to speculate? Maybe a diufferent formulae?

My squiggoth was resistant even after washing. I gave it a light dusting of matte varnish and then the paint seemed to stick okay.
Hope this helps.

Sometimes the resin is just very hard and smooth and you have to prep the surface. Get some very fine sand paper and very lightly sand the model before painting.
