Trying to come up with a Chaos list that everybody isn't already bored of playing against, while not automatically losing. The current army I'm working on is Nurgle-themed, but I could just model up some rotting Bezerkers ...

How do you think either of these lists would do? I don't own any landraiders yet, but I'm open to persuasion.

I'd say they'd do better if they had triple land raiders, full squads of 10 Plague Marines, and one HQ choice. I suggest Typhus. Lords really are trash. They maybe lesser demons to your hearts desire.

By avoiding one trap you fall inot another. Welcome to Land Raider Wars. Everyone and their little brother is spamming land raiders these days too.

Really, if you want to play a list that is different, just don't spam any one thing. Take lash if you want, take a few oblits if you want, whatever floats your boat. Take different things, but keep an eye on how they will work together. Just avoid the deathtraps that are spawn, posessed, lords, and lesser demons. Play to your opponent, if they are bring their top tier lists in all likely hood they are spamming some units or a delicious combo too. If they are bringing a medium force with a lot of diversity and don't want to play a dual lash and oblits list, then change it up for them.

To avoid both land raider wars and the things you listed I would use

warptime sorcerer, jump pack
2 squads of 10 csm, IoCG, 2 mg, champ PF, naked rhino
2 plague marine squads of 8, 2 mg, champ pf naked rhino
1 plague marine squad of 6, 2 mg, naked rhino
20 raptors, Icon of nurgle, 2 mg champ pf

That leaves 13 points for a combi melta on a rhino, or tow combi bolters on rhinos.

Then again, you might be accused of spamming plague marines like everyone else ... you see what kind of loop this is?

For what its worth, just play with what you like and trade things up occasionally with people you play repeatedly to avoid stagnation. That's why I have multiple armies.
