My FLGS is running a 1500 point league/touney type thing, and I pretty much want to lay the beat down, so here goes:

I like Tzeentch, so am thinking of going with a zappy blasty army, of which I have two variations:

[230] Sorceror, lvl2, MOT, Disc, book of secrets, golden eye of tzeentch bloodcurdling roar
[175] Sorceror, lvl2, MOT, infernal puppet
[185] Sorceror, lvl2, MOT, rod of torment

[278] 15 warriors, shields, musician, standard bearer, MOT
[105] 15 marauders, great weapons, full command, MOS
[105] 15 marauders, great weapons, full command, MOS

[272] 5 knights, MOT, standard bearer, blasted standard
[150] Warshrine, MOT

Total = [1500] 9 power dice, rod of torment, roar


OR

[190] Sorceror, lvl2, MOT, Skull of katam
[175] Sorceror, lvl2, MOT, infernal puppet
[165] Sorceror, lvl2, MOT, Book of secrets

[278] 15 warriors, shields, musician, standard bearer, MOT
[105] 15 marauders, great weapons, full command, MOS
[105] 15 marauders, great weapons, full command, MOS

[272] 5 knights, MOT, standard bearer, blasted standard

Total [1440] 60pts left, 9 power dice, all at +2 to cast

Ok, so basic premise with both lists is to advance upfield, sorcerors with the warriors, warriors in the middle, flanked by the marauders in a chevron, with the knights on a flank, with the shrine lagging between marauder and knights, within 12" of both knights and warriors, then blasting the hell out of anything that looks at them funny.

puppet isnt something id normally choose, but may work well with this list, saving my sorcerors from bad miscasts, and hopefully, combining with pandaemonium to screw over opposing magic.

1st list: gets to within range, then disc sorceror flies out of unit, either getting a charge on warmachine crew (maybe, maybe), lone wizards or just to mess around behind opposing lines. he has roar, and 2 magic missiles in the form of flickering fire and fireball presumably (unless i roll flaming sword....), so can do some damage (hopefully!). Golden eye for a 3+ward in case some mobile firepower is around...

2nd list: All sorcerors go with the warriors, same dployment as before, but all get +2 to cast with the skull of katam. if needs be they can leave the warriors and run from combat, zapping stuff as they go.

In all cases, the knights just go around being really, really scary.ideally all firepower will be shot at them, leaving my other stuff to close in. If my opponent lets them get into combat, then... they do what they do best!

What do you think of the lists? Which is better, and can any changes be made? Any ideas for the last 60pts in list 2? banner of rage for the warriors (!)?

like it, definately need skull of katam and infernal puppet, might also be tempting to look into taking the third eye of tzeentch, will be really nice if you have an opponent using high/dark magic, also casting pandemonium is essential to causing those miscasts to let your puppet do what it does best, shutting your enemies magic phase down,

i would also give the knights banner of rage to really maximise there CC potential prehaps with that though you would need 5 warhounds to make sure they don't end up chasing some fast cav around all game,

still the second list i like alot more hopefully my suggestions have helped

Thanks for the input! 3rd eye isnt something id considered, but would fit well with the 2nd list.

Im not too keen on with frenzied knights due to the baiting and whatnot. Ive designed the knights to be completely independant, able to take on a flank on their own, and have done in my past 2 games - the 4+ ward vs shooting saw them go through 2 games vs dwarf gunlines without a scratch, so it seems to work!

Reckon it would be woth skimming a few points off and taking 5 marauder horsemen for flanking?

probably not unless you want want to combo charge with a ranked up unit and give them flials so they can cause casualties on the charge and deny rank bonus,

3rd eye is very useful, i designed a list for my mate at 2k that used it and he was using the old tzeentch spells on a beast of chaos army, pandemonuim and green fire destroyed the army, its also been done and used for casting black horror on dark elves, coupled with pandemonium again destroyed his army, however also hope you can get infernal gate off and with your+2 to cast pray you can get it off as it is the a very destructive spell,

as i said if you were going to use banner of rage have a small unit of hounds deployed straight in front of them, the hounds will either die, or move off to charge other units once the knights are in range, and frenzy wont be so much of an issue, then wheel in from the flank and smash what evers left, warhounds in general might be a great screening force to protect your infantry from getting shot for a turn and if they are still alive charge something to soften it up or deny rank bonus to the enemy

Indeed, a unit of hounds or two deployed in front of the main force may help with that initial round of shooting, and then just run them at the opposing line. Im gonna have to get a practice game or two in with them and see how the knights do, if they need more killy, then the 60pts can go on banner of rage, hounds and eye of tzeentch, and hope i roll a 12 for them on the warshrines eotg roll!

Are there any armies that would give this problems?

Undead would be in trouble with pandaemonium and puppet,

elves will suffer from the magic, being all squishy.

at 1500, dont think dwarves will have enough anti mage to shut me down.

Wood elves and lizards? They would be trouble, but then, they always are...

daemons, but they give everyone problems

vamps, possibly as you lack say a really decent character, unless you can get the spell of that turns a warrior on foot into an exalted champion etc to kill vampires as they are extremely hard,

wood elves possibly if you get isolated/combo charged

high elves, watch out for them dragons

but really apart from that i think you would be okay, you have a strong magic phase and the ability to shut down his, just make sure you get pandemonium off and have some decent units in CC
