I haven't played WHFB in quite a while but I have come to see that its called the "HeroHammer" era now it seems. Those were some good times. What was your favorite 5th edition memory?

Mine was one of the cheesiest things I have ever done. 2000 point Khorne Demon army v/s lizardmen. First turn BT and Chaos Dragon flew high. Second turn came down, Killed the Fat Frog priest with the BT and off the table the rest ran from the Chaos dragon.

I know its terrible but those were some fun times.

Grief. I hated 5th edition. One of GW's worst sets of rules EVAR!

My mate ALWAYS took Egrimm van Horstmann and every game he would just rage about in my backfield. So in the end I spent all 25% warmachine allowance on High Elf repeater bolt throwers. In at 3000pts that came to 15. Split into two batteries, with Prince Tyrion attached to the larger and the smaller had a hero with the heart of woe.

My buddy charging a unit of night goblins with a tricked out Bret cav unit with general, sorcesser, and supped up knights. rolling 11+ for all 3 fanatics and then 30 wounds. Priceless.

Not sure about the magic rules themselves (bloody card system, it was like stopping the game each turn to play poker), but I do miss all the spells.

Loved the High Magic one that enabled you to resurrect a character.

Using some wacky banner (lightning banner maybe?) to kill off a whole unit of expensive Brettonian knights in the first moments of the first turn.

What a silly game.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Yeah, Spells were on cards(each kind of magic had its own deck), Power/dispells/etc. was a separate shared deck. You shuffled and randomly drew cards to assign spells to wizards(so no armies had duplicates of the spells in them unless you were playing with a LoC) and spells were kept secret from your opponent until used.

having ariel and orion tear through an empire army by themselves, oh and being able to have war dancers jump over units, ah those were the days

Vampire Count/Lord suicide bomber with Heart of Woe - S7 D6 Wounds hit anyone(or some similarly obscene number)? I vapourised a Bloodthirster and Daemon Prince once with that. Top it off with a Carnstein Ring. HE COMES BACK TO DO IT AGAIN!

I also loved the days when Vampire Lords were only 210 points naked, and had even better stats than their 6th edition counterparts (though crappier abilities)

Cheers

Trying to figure out how to put together a Chaos army.

Also, trying to figure out how to make that same Chaos army utterly borken.

I agree. Vampire lord, hydra sword, carstein ring. Not a pretty sight.

I'll third the Vampire Missile.

Slann Lord with the Hyrda Sword. Slann had 8 attacks and the sword multiplied each hit into d6.

I think it was the Book of Secrets that would allow you to cast a spell with Total Power for d6 stat points so you'd have the Vampire hiding in the woods with m1, ws1, bs1, s1, i1, ld1 at the end of the game.

Bretonians allowed to have 75% of their army be characters.

Amend that

Vampire Lord, Blade of Leaping Gold, Carstein Ring, Black Amulet AND the Heart of Woe + Full nonmagical kit. But true, you could practically swap the BOLG, Hydra Sword and Frostblade around depending on what you wanted/needed to kill.

Oh yeah, and whatever the Vamp Lord doesn't kill in close combat, he can obliterate with Hand of Dust during the Magic Phase.

Also the old uber Curse of the Years, which got more powerful the longer it was left on.

Who can forget the Black Amulet, practically a uniform for all characters. 4+ ward save FTW.

^^^Just saw your reply Lion.
There was another variant of the Slann someone I knew cooked up. The "Super Slann". 2nd generation with BOLG/Hydra Sword, Black Amulet and a couple of other bits and pieces. Hide the whole assembly in a unit of Temple Guard and just charge forward. The Slann regenerated wounds, hit like a ton of bricks in combat and did a lot of other nastiness besides (I forget what now, but it was pretty bad).

I think I remember the Book of Secrets. I believe I used it to chain-cast Curse of the Years until my entire opponent's army in range of the Necromancer died. I love the days when Necromancy was the one discipline you could cast spells repetitively...

Sorceror Lord of Slaanesh, on his Manticore, charged from on high my opponent (and now flatmates) pimped out Vampire Lord (Carstein Ring, Hydra Sword, Heart of Woe).

Back then, Vampire's were not immune to psychology (this was Warhammer Armies Undead, not Vampire Counts!). And promptly legs it off the table. Entire Undead army crumbles, I win in turn 2.
