I like devourers, I like warriors, tell me what you think of this list, for fun and competative basically. The goal is to have hivetyrant+zoanthropes cause -4 to ld tests from shooting morale tests and force enemy fallbacks and against non-fearless armies hopefully nobody will be able to charge (hive tyrant will be up front at all times so only chargeable target and the horror will hopefully have enemy fail charge).

The warriors are there to get into combat and support stealers with lictor which hopefully take out rear av10 tanks and contest/take enemy objectives as stealers scuttle on from sides. I could save points by taking off leaping and adding more models though and keep warriors for coutner-charge, any ideas or advice?

16 s6 twin linked devourer shots

36 s3 devourer shots

so yeah, lotsa dice=lotsa fun!

I was also thinking of taking the cc warriors and making them 30 points by simply giving them +ws,+S,+bioplasma,+2 scything and then I'd drop the devouer gaunts and can take 2X 8 base stealers.

I foresee a couple of problems...like what are you gonna do against a fearless army? And what about tanks? 3 zoanthropes is not enough (they are not reliable enough).

Pretty much everything in your army has an 18" range. After that you can't really threaten their position...at all. Im sorry to say this doesnt look like a a good list on paper.

For advice I would say put in some other heavy support (fexes), give your tyrant wings, put WoN on gaunts, lose scuttlers and the lictor...get more gaunts.

Well, agasint tanks... the lictor and scuttling stealers can hit rear armor and destroy anything that has rear armor 10-11 so I'm not worried about that. Even my leaping warriors can make it to a leman russ and destroy it as they'd be hitting rear armor.

The only concern I have is land raiders and that is the primary reason I have the zoanthropes.

Against fearless armies... the tactics are the same, just shoot shoot shoot then assault, tyranids are still better in combat than most anything else.

The range isn't really an issue either so =/.

i would see this having issues against a footslogger ork army.

They would have so many bodies on the field that once they got into your 18" shooting range, they are likely going to be getting ready to charge.

my footsloggers orks would be 250+ orks (forget the exact count) vs your 69 units, considering that you would likely only get one, maybe 2 turns of shooting and i could waagh or run to get to you, you will end up overrun by that type of army.

I don't know, the tyranid warrior broods have an 18" threat range (6" move 12" charge) and will decimate ork mobs on their own not to mention having tmc in front can handle the brunt of any ork charge imo.

Ork nob bikers might be a problem and the like but that is what lashwhips/higher initiative is for! All in all, it depends on how the army is played so it's not like "because footslogging orks this list will die horribly" imo.

I'm not saying that it would lose horribly, i'm just saying that a footslogging ork army would give it some issues... It would be a fun battle to play out in all honesty because it wouldn't just be a route

yeah, I love playing against orks with nids, tons of stuff guaranteed to die either way. The orks are better at shooting these days than cc anyway though so with so many higher initiative attacks an ork mob would be hard pressed to do enough damage to stem a decent fast and close combat oriented brood of anything.

I'll have to find a big ork army to play against and see what happens.

In honesty, I think anything that'll range you will defeat you. ie. Gaurd, Tau, Necrons even.

Space Marines drop podded w/ flamers would hurt quite a bit. Also, SM commander with 1 or 2 LR's with CC Termies will tear this up.

Necrons, because lets face it AV 14 Monolith is nothing to shake a stick at, and at 2k pts I'm betting he's bringing more than one.

Mechanized Tau or just gun line Tau will decimate you before you get into CC, the only hope there is that you're able to get in to CC before he makes mince-meat of your squads before ever getting with in charging distance.

Now what I've listed off aren't "hate-builds" to your list these are pretty common units and builds in 5th Edition. And they work pretty well. Your list just lacks a substantial punch to put certain threats down. I mean you don't even have a Barbed Strangler or a Venom Cannon. Tank stuns help out alot when trying to keep you 'nids from being eaten up by enemy tank fire, especially against Gaurd and SM. Just something to keep in mind. I mean I understand the theory behind many shots equal bad saving throws, but I think you've taken that to an extreme and its hurt your ability to deal with late game/harder armored targets.

Tyrants can have psychic scream. They also can have barbed stranglers. They can also reliably take out tanks (High I and a decent no. of attacks i.e 3-4)

Warriors can field 1 barbed strangler per squad. They are also elites, use your elites more efficiently.

Lictor -personal choice. Hes a little scary & creepy.

Fexes can also get barbed stranlgers. They have bs 2 base.

Barbed stranglers have pinning. Dont care much about low bs (thanks to 5ed) and have 36' range. Compliment these with deathspitters in your warrior army.

2x str 8 large blast, 2xstr5 large blast, 3x str 4 large blast (all pinning) + at a minimum 6 str 6 blast weapons @ 24'' range. This is with 3 warrior squads and 2 fexes & 2 tyrants, add in 3 zoanthropes and psyhic scream everything, Thats a total possibly -5ld with atleast -2ld being much more of a surety.

You now need lots of gaunts. Get enough to travel with the zoanthropes to make it a difficult descion about what to kill (you loose a synapse hub, theres 7 more btw)

Against fearless things.. str5 ap 3 zap blast em. Or eat them.


(Edit: Flyants with 5A base can reliably take out tanks. Assume you stun them a little with this lists to allow the tyrants to catch anything. If you give a screaming tyrant wings you loose a 2+ which makes it too vunerable)

the only reason he'll get decimated is because this is NOT a Shooty Nid List, rather it is a Mono-Shooty Nid List. As with all things Nids, you need to focus on one major aspect almost to the exclusion of all else and in so doing will really bring home the smack down. I look through this list and ask where the death Spitters are, where the biovores and the few venom cannons the occasional barbed strangler is and then see that the list has maxed withd evourers only. Good weapon yeah, but expensive - where are those fleshborers man! Those Termagants are damned cheap and do wonders in massed numbers. You sir have a 2,000pt army with 59 models. 2,000 points. You're gonna get annihilated. Take a core shooty base of 100 termagants as standard, work around that as you see fit, Warriors with deathspitters, some Biovores with Bio-acid spore mines two dakka tyrants and a few dakka fexes, bring the pscychic choir the full 5 along and now you're going down the path I've been down alot where you will outshoot anything against you including guard hoards, necrons and Tau - outshooting Tau and Guard was hilarious, the looks on the opponents and those watching the game smirking at the concept of a pure shooty nid force was priceless.

IMHO, you've focused too much on the devourers and not enough on punching armour, you don't need to punch it at range youc an do it in combat if need be but thoise genestealers are a tasty and obvious first turn threat to eliminate and the Lictor with the tendril support for them whilst useful is not that great. The Warriors for combat have no extended carapace so will drop as fast as 2-3 gaunts to bolter/shuriken fire also. Like I said, 59 models at 2,000 points, even with all the initial; devourer shots you are packing a standard ork hoard or even rival nid army is going to own you, and just wait for the LR Spam lists. Sorry to be so negative, but that's what this thread is for, critiquing.
