I have been working on two things recently. One is a pirate. The other, a diorama.
The pirate is fairly simple. I took a Imperial Guard Conscript tunic and slapped it on some Tank commander legs (I think, they were just in my bitz box). I then made a sash out of
GS and put that on the tunic, covering the stubborn button that just wouldn't be filed off. For the boots, I wanted them to look swashbuckle-y so I made a sausage of
GS and after filing off the bootstraps on the sides I wrapped the
GS around the middle of the calves. I will need to file them so they are more straight and do not have wavy edges. For the coat, I made an ellipse of sorts which I wrapped around the back of the model. I left a collar and I left the coat open in the front, and I shall make some buttons later on (probably by next update). I cut out a small triangle on the back bottom of the coat.
Regarding my diorama, I thought it would just look badass if I had a Catachan emerging from the water, dripping weeds and tendrils of flora. I changed this idea as I worked on the project, adding a ghillie suit made out of
GS. I will add some lichen to the suit, and am debating on whether I should add some weeds to the suit that will look as if they are being dragged out of the water.
To form the body of the figure, I took a Catachan body, a left-handed sword arm, and a lasgun arm with the gun being cradled in one arm and the strap slung around the forearm. I trimmed off about half of the sword arm, and just let it hang down. I trimmed away the lasgun in the right arm, leaving the butt of the gun (it will be taken care of later). I then trimmed down a bolter to fit and attached it to the arm, because frankly, bolters > lasguns every day of the week. They just look cooler, if nothing else. Next, I took some rough sandpaper and sanded down the model, maybe two or three millimeters. This removed the elbow, butt of the lasgun, and smoothed the bottom of the figure. I glued it to a cork circle (probably not the best of bases but it works) right between some jungle tree parts. I made vines out of
GS based on a back-order of White Dwarf, where the ends are twisted until an optimal length and amount of detail has been reached. I made more vines and wrapped them around my tree. I took the mantrap from the
HWT sprue and put it on a shoreline made of
GS. I added lichen and a jungle tree, and made some quicksand using a needle. A guardsman's helmet provided tangible proof of the quicksand's danger.
I also intend to sand down the very visible fingerprints on the shore.
Input and comments are greatly appreciated. I will add more pictures as I paint them and add goodies.
SORRY about the occasional flash and blur. The camera is fine, I am just not good at taking pictures.
