Ok so, I wanna say 'ello to everyone first. Ive been reading dakka forums for a while, but am one of those trolls who just watch and dont say erm...anything
anyway. I have a problem, I started painting an IG cadian army, and I paint all the troops fine (to my standards anyway) but I have difficulty with tanks... I use the standard catachan green/khaki style...(I will eventually post pictures up once I have a camera.

I tried to follow the IG codex Dark angel green base w/ catachan drydrush/ camo highlight, but I feel it does not match the troopers armour of catachan green/camo highlight. Its almost as if the dark angel green is making it too light, it just looks off. So I was wondering if I were to try a black base coat/ catachan drybrush/ followed by light camo highlight, would that give me a more desirable effect?

Or better yet, is there a better way anyone is privy to? any help would be much appreciated. thanks guys.

Not exactly sure what you mean.I would
have thought that DA green was too far
away in tone to the other colours you mentioned.
You're maybe right about DA giving a
lighter shade.Yes a black undercoat would
make it look darker but not much.Suggest
you drop DA from the equation.Try Cata.
basecoat, then add some bleached bone to
the mix and drybrush with that.Highlight
with even lighter shade.Hope it helps.

hmmm a bleached bone drybrush over cata...didnt think of that.

thanks.

it is strange that the IG codex itself recommends a DA basecoat for its tanks...it just doesnt look right, nor does a cata show over it very well as a dry brush.

Hi,
Just a quick thought.There is a company
called Gamecraft that do paints(I think
they are part or Ral partha europe). They
do a colour called deep bronze green which
is in tone somewhere between DA and Cata.
It is a good colour which i use a lot.
Try either WWW.ralpartha.co.uk or
www.leisuregames.co.uk

Are you sure you're not getting trolls confused with lurkers?

Trolls post things with the hope of getting everybody riled up.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

The baneblade I posted a few weeks ago was a black base. Then a DA spray then a catachan green drybrush.

Well this might help.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/225557.page

This is my Cadian army. For the Troops I went.

Armor

1. Black primer
2. Catatachan green (2 coats)
3. highlight camo green

Clothes

1. Bleached bone
2. Devlin mud wash, thick or 2 coats
3. bleached bone over everything but the shade
4. watered down white highlight on some raised edges. (Only on sgts or unique characters, not on rank and file)

Tanks.

See page 1 of the above thread about 3/4 the way down. I explain how I got that effect. I think thats what you are looking for. At least I think anyway. I went for a Codex Cadian look. Hope it helps. If this is what you are looking for ask post any painting questions on that thread and I will answer them.
