Hey guys, just want a little advice on daemon princes, and i think with MoT, Wings, Iron Hide, U might. (215point sink) i think they're above average. I tried this list out earlier involving 3 DPs 3 Heralds, Bloodcrushers, and Horrors (2k Points) against Nidzilla. (2 Super Tyrant Squads 2 DakkaFexxes, 1 CC fex, and the rest genestealers) and i must say, Daemonzilla>Nidzilla. In terms of big meanies, DPs have the initiative,WS,and attacks to really put on the hurt on these guys. I ended up with just 1 DP dead 1 Herald dead, pitted agains all the MCs and the genestealers massacred the BC but later, being picked off by horror fire.

anyway

What do people think of Deamon Princes? And waht would you kit them with? and how many?

They're good, but they end up too expensive.

My fav remains: mark of nurgle, wings, iron hide, noxious touch, grenades.
Even worst as a point sink, but kills whatever it touches.

I prefer grinders (with tongue) though, as they cost roughly 80 pts less than such a DP, and my army needs AT badly.

It's called random for a reason. By the way, Daemon Princes should be tooled up and sent after the enemy's commander, because it is the way of evil to have a big flunky with no neck and no conscience take out the hero.

They aren't bad but they aren't nearly as good as Soul Grinders.

Basically, the 2 questions you have to ask yourself is this: will a soul grinder be able to do what I want my Daemon Prince to do, cheaper, and more effectively? And can something else in the codex do what I want my Daemon Prince to do, cheaper and more effectively.

In almost all of the cases, the answer to that question is yes. There are a few exceptions:

#1 - Epidemus Lists. Daemon Princes /w the Mark of Nurgle are critical here.
#2 - Pavane. Since Slaaneshii Daemon Princes can take Pavane and DON'T have fleet, they're the best choice for Pavane platforms in the Chaos Daemons codex.
#3 - Fateweaver Synergy. DPs have an saving throw, so they can take advantage of Fateweaver's re-roll.

With cent on this one. They synergize well with very few things, and if you're not using that synergy - you're better off with a grinder, an HQ greater demon, or bloodcrushers.

Brotherhood of Blood

They compete with Soulgrinders so don't get used very often.

I like the DP, preferably Tz run next to Fateweaver. with DP's, it really is all about army synergy. I also feel they add some nice CC abuility to those armies (tz, nurgle) that are a little weaker in that aria. Ive also seen them stand up to considerably more AT damage than a SG could ever hope to, but they do fall more easily to small arms.

DP's=badass but i played a 2250 pt game, played a list just for fun, used 1 hs(soulgrinder) and he killed that game: daemon prince, defiler, and a dreadnaught. all in all i realise they are just fun to play with, but you cant count on a SG getting this kind of kills alot (i just got lucky with rolls).

also when it comes to anti tank...DP's are better.

How the heck do you think that DP's are better against armor?

Then you're experiencing some serious statistical anomalies. In assault, the Soul Grinders are better in almost every way. S10 beats the S5/6, even with the 2d6 pen that Daemon Princes get, against every possible rear armor facing.

In shooting, the Tzeentch DP is the only one that's got any comparison, and that's due to bolt of tzeentch at BS5. Even then, it's only S8, so it does next to nothing against Land Raiders, when you need to go into assault.

thats the thing too, i have only one SG...i plan to get a few more though, and test out some armies using only SG's. but the reason i say that is because the majority of players at my FLGS play either SM or CSM and ive lost countless Soul Grinders to dreads in CC.

That is the one exception. Dreads have I4 which gives them a half-decent chance of killing a soul grinder before it gets to strike. Even then, though, with 2 attacks base, they still have to pen the grinder and then get a 5 or 6. Not exactly good odds. Ironclads are a different beast - the +1 on the damage table makes a difference.
