I dunno...

Ok, my problem is that whenever I pick up one of my WS to paint, I crap out before I've even started...
I dont really know why, I like the scheme I guess it's just actually painting the white that demoralises me, should I change schemes? There's a few good 'uns in the codex and I came up with this on the B&C painter, they will prbably be a White Scars successor chapter or at least use the same Combat Doctrine as I like bikes

My Idea, the left shoulderpad trim and knee are different colours for different squads

I'd leave green knee pad there, but make both shoulderpads rimmed in green. Most chapters have their marking on the right kneepad.

We don't need more black marines.

If white demoralizes you,why not change to grey?
Mabe "light grey" as basic color with black or red as second color?
Or keep both WS colors, grey+red+yellow.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

I saw a similar scheme to this recently and it was very striking, particularly on the vehicles.

The problem with black marines, no matter how well you paint them, it always looks like you just sprayed them black and then picked out a detail somewhere ie your knee pad. It looks great in priciple, but in practice (due to the way we paint our models) it just looks lazy. Just my thoughts.

1hadq, The trouble with that is, they aren't called Grey Scars, I don't think it would look as good. Inyoka, I see your point

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

not necessarly, black has its own highlighting/ etc.

And you can put time into the green.

I dunno...

Don't forget that the colour of the pad trim/knee will vary between squads i.e the example is from squad Viridis (Latin for Green) there could be a squad Crocus (yellow) or Rutilus (red) or Puteulanus (blue)

@OP you can use this army to practice painting white, maybe by the time you finish a squad , you will improve so much that it'll actually motivate you to finish the rest of your army!

Beat that obstacle!

@OP - I quite like your original idea. The bone coloured helmets will ensure that they are not just enough black Space Marine chapter.

why dont' you show a pic of your army as it is now and we can look to see if we like it. Then we can say yes or no. I say no because a painted army is a painted army.

@ OP: black&grey paint scheme seems fine to me.

Looks interesting and easy enough to get those models painted.
But as others said, its your paintjob and should be FUN , not work.

hey, P4NC4K3, i know just how you feel. i would reccomend taking up a colour scheme with black as the main colour- that way you get to spend more time on details and still get great results

I say..... the first one looks generic sorta black templar flavor to it, the second one sort looks grey knightish.

Add something like....... idunno, pink/purple. Not many people use that, and you'll definateley know if someone steals your color scheme.

The black pic with the green shoulder pad looks almost identical to Ravenguard Tactical Squads. RG uses Green for tac, red for assault, yellow for devastator squads.
I feel your pain. I thought having white termies would be a nice touch, but white it probably the most difficult color to paint with. :( I had a lot of suggestions on how to do it better and am giving a few a try to see if it helps motivate me to keep going with the white, or to SimpleGReen the ones I have and do something else. Heh.

I dunno...

Ya know, I may stick with the scheme I've got, for three reasons:
1) I love the way the WS chapter looks, plays and it's fluff
2) I'm sure if I buckle down, I can paint them up without pain
3) I'm too damn lazy to start all over again!

So I will not repaint my army, I'm quite proud of my boys in white anyway Thanks a load Dakka

BTW here's a (bad) pic of a marine, a practice attempt at armour chipping, I don't think I'll keep doing that
