Alright, I've finally got a little bit to show for my work. This is my first ever
40k army, and also my first minis/war game kinda game ever, so I'm very new to the whole building/converting/painting thing. I decided I wanted to go with Space Marines, because I heard they were very beginner friendly, and personally, the concepts of drop pods filled with dreadnoughts and squads of troops is just... well... the most badass thing I've seen in this game. So, I decided to make up my own Chapter, so I could formulate my own fluff as I go.
Right now, I'm using Vallejo Game Color exclusively, and a micron pen for black lining. I need to find some better brushes... I'm thinking the Reaper master series sabol brushes are nice. I follow Jawaballs youtube channel, and he recommended them, and at that price, it's definitely worth giving it a shot. My next tool investment is definitely going to be a pin vice, and a large batch of troop-sized magnets, because I'm a very slow painter, and I don't like putting the arms on until after I've painted. If I magnetize the arms, not only can I swap out weapon options at my leisure, I can also put the arms on before I paint them, that way I can play with my units before I finish painting them, and then I can just pop em off when I want to paint.
Here's my little color scheme concept photoshop.
Anyway, here's my current army list. It's only 1000 points, but my friends that are all starting up with me didn't want too large point games to overwhelm us at the start.
HQ - Chaplain w/ Jump Pack - 115 (waiting to arrive)
Troops - 10x Tactical Squad, melta gun, plasma cannon, power fist - 205 (90%)
Troops - 10x Tactical Squad, melta gun, plasma cannon, power fist - 205 (waiting to arrive)
Razorback - 40 (need to assemble and paint)
Razorback - 40 (still need to buy)
10x Assault squad, flamer, power fist - 225 (need to assemble and paint)
Ironclad Dreadnought - 135 (need to paint)
Drop Pod - 35 (still need to buy)
Yeah... I'm pretty far off of from the finished product...
I need to purchase all the things mentioned, plus a devastator box for the plasma cannons, and a Black Templars upgrade kit, because I want to use a lot of the bits, and I'm using the
BT Tabards to denote veteran sergeants. I'll throw up some pictures when I take them. So far I only have 6 men done, and the other 4 of the squad are all in need of highlights and lining. I also haven't done the backpacks yet, because they are kinda boring, and I want to do them in one big batch.
Here are a few shots I took while my first 3 guys were still really
WIP. They look a bit better now with the black lining. Also, I know the lighting is pretty bad. I'm working on a different setup for taking my future pictures.
