I am very new to playing orks, i am a long time CSM player and decided that since the only thing i had trouble beating was orks i might as well give them a go and see how they preforme. I dont have a huge budjet unfortunatly so this is looking like a long term project but i am getting two sets of AoBR soon so i will have a small army, i need help to make this list compedetive because i am still a litte foggy on what are the better units. all help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

General tips for playing Footslogging Orks:

- You need numbers. You are gonna get shot and orks will die by droves. Minimum size of a footslog Boy squad is 20 Boyz. So use them in 20's or 30's.
- Do not use Nobs or Burnas on foot. They're as squishy as your fellow Boyz only they cost 3 times the price. You need to give them a transport or not use em at all.
- A Big Mek with a KFF is very appreciated on foot orks.
- Opinion varies but in general, Shoota Boyz are prefered over Slugga Boyz in footslogging armies.

General tips for Orks:

- If you want to play competitively, do not use the random elements of the codex. The SAG is out.
- Do not add Buzzsaws on Deffkoptas. They're too weak (S7) and easy to kill and the Buzzsaws are very expensive.

here's some advice
-The boss is pretty good for a foot slogging boss, although the biker boss is a total monster. S 10 T 6 on the charge is nothing to laugh at. You might want to consider beefing him up to that, esp. because he's highly mobile and can get where you need him fast.

-Your big mek is trying to fill two roles, which don't really work out for big meks. You have a SAG on him which is great for shooting and the PK for HtH. My experience is that a SAG equiped big mek is worthless once he gets into HtH. You should decide what you want your big mek to do and then have him stick to that role. Two common set ups for Big meks is
1. Shooting Big Mek give him a SAG, maybe give him a cybork body for some protection. for the pts i always give him an ammo runt, there's nothing better than rerolling one shot with that when you really need it.
The trick with him is to put him in a loota squad to give him lots more survivabilty.
2. The Klose Kombat Big Mek, with a KFF, cybork body, attack squig, and burna or PK. This gets to be pretty expensive but if you wanna hit hard in HtH you need to pay. This is good because you want him to get into HtH so he's giving your boyz a cover save all the way up to HtH

-The nobz are a good loadout i would add some combination of combi/rokkits combi/burnas

-lootas are pretty good how they are, if you have a SAG big mek with them they're even better

-burnas are good, but drop the mek, if you have a KFF big mek with a burna they're even better

You might want to drop one of these squads and pick which one you want based on which mek you want. If you cut one squad you'll have more points for troops, which you need.

Your boyz squads need to get bumped up to 30 models, 3 squads of 30 boyz supported by a big mek with a squad of burnas is pretty scary! Esp. with the warboss mixed in there somewhere.

Maybe take a small squad of grots for 1 of 2 reasons either:
Put them out front to soak fire or
leave them in back to cap objectives while your boyz rush forward.

As far as the dethcoptas go, model wise i love them (hell i sponsered the conversion contest for them), game wise i hate them.
They're too expensive for what they don't do but i think they're great for Apoc.
You might want to drop them altogether and invest in getting a battlewagon or two.
Battle wagons are great because you can put those burnas in there and they're pretty safe.
In a game i played today i pulled a wagon with 15 burnas in it up next to a squad of 8 genestealers with a broodlord and hit him with 15 flame templates, yeah i hit him with 120 wounds!

PoD: thanks for the additional list, i proxied some models to try it out and it was rather nasty for my opponent, it will deffinatly be considered.

Daggermaw: thanks for the top quality advice, just a few quick questions

1:can the biker boss join a footslogging unit, ive never used or versed bikes so i am not to sure about them.

yes a biker boss can join a unit of footsloggers but his movement is reduced to match theirs, and they can't run.

taking combi/burnas is great because it gives you a chance to hit an enemy right before you assault to soften up a little bit. Combi/rokkits are good because if you have 5 nobz with them it'll give you some ranged punch that you might need.
If you think about it a regular boy with a rokkit might only shoot it 3 times a game.

there's som problems with you new list though
1. your squads of 20 boyz can't have 3 rokkits, you can only hae one shoota/rokkit per 10 orks so you'd need 30 boyz per squad to get 3 rokkits
2. your burnas can't buy a truck as a dedicated transport, the way to get them in a truck would be to buy a unit of boyz with a truck and do the switch on the table.

here's a list i might recommend

HQ
Warboss with armor, PK, combi/skorcha, bosspole, attack squig, cybork body

Big Mek with SAG and ammo runt

Elites

15 Burna Boyz

2x8 lootas

Troops

3x30 boyz with 3 rokkits, nob with boss pole and PK

Heavy BAttlewagon with 4 big shootas and a kannon, deff rolla, red paint, stikkbomb chukka

the plan is put the burnas and boss in the wagon, they ride up to a unit and flame it, if it somehow survives they get out and assualt next turn.

leave the mek with a sag and the 2 units in the back field shooting things up, lootas are great because they can chew things up and i find that they take minimum shooting as people are more focused on the battle wagon bearing down on them.

or an alternative list is

warboss PK, combi/skorcha, armor, attack squig, bosspole, cybork

big mek, burna, KFF, armor, attack squig, bosspole, cybork

7 nobz, 2 PK, 4 combi/skorcha, cybork, 1 waaagh banner, truck with red paint, ram, stickbomb chucka

15 burna boyz

30 boyz, 3 rokkits, nob with PK and bosspole

2x20 boyz, 2 rokkits, nob with PK and bosspole

the plan is load your big mek and burnas into the wagon, with the boss and nobz in a nearby truck with boyz all around as your army advances they will be kinda tight but will all have a cover save the wagon and truck with nobz can take out heavy resistance as needed with boyz doing mop up. this army is a litlle risky as it 's easily defeatable with massed blast and template weapons, but if you can play and plan it right it hits like a monster. The list with lootas is a little more balanced as you have some long range shooting that people either have to deal with, thus not taking shots at your assault force or they ignore it thus giving you more shots to soften the enemy for your assault force.

here's some general tips for building an ork list,
- keep constants in your mind, for me the warboss and boyz are always a constant. I run a speed freak army and i always have a bike boss and 3 squads of boyz in trucks as a constant in every list. these units never change, i know how they work they fill their role pretty well.
- Decide what you want your big mek to do and take burnas or lootas as a compliment. If i want to shoot i take a big mek with SAG and 2 half squads of lootas. If i want cover for my boyz i take a Big mek with KFF and a squad of boyz or burna boyz as a compliment.
- the secret for big meks is not to put him into a weedy unit, he must have at least 20 boys or 15 burnas with him or you'll soon see him retreating off the table.
- decide how you want your main assault force to hit an enemy, a truck or battlewagon goes a long way to keeping nobz or burnas alive when getting them across the table. the truck is good as it's fast and you can usually assault on turn 2, but it's weak. the wagon is good cause it can take a beating and still get there pretty good.
- that said make sure your boyz hit all at once, orks are extremely powerful in a charge for 6 points, but after that your pretty much only depending on your nob to kill stuff.
- the phrase "powerklaw delivery system" you need PKs everywhere you can get them, and they need to get into combat for eery PK that doesn't amke it to combat you didn't just lose 25 pts you lost what ever that whole squad was worth.

Its easier to deal with just one battlewagon than it is with two especially if they both get the 4+ save from the Big Mek. Keep the Burnas and Big Mek in the BW and any unit they get in range of will get torched by 16 Burnas which is rediculous because they can all hit the maximum amount of units underneath a single template and your basically guaranteed the charge against heavily armored targets like terminators where you can use your burnas as power weapons and hit them with 49 armour ignoring attacks. The second battlewagon with the slugga boys is kinda awesome to, their attacks may not ignore armor but the other day i had 20 slugga boys with a WB wipe a CC Terminator squad w/ librarian trying to destroy my BW before it go tank shock some poor units. Lootas will pound any enemy vehicles accept 14 which in my opinion of the rules your BW should take care of. There is a low amount of scoring units but your Shoota boys footslogging will be the least of your oppenents problems. I give the footslogging boys Shootas so they can shoot as they slowly move across the board, point for point they are one of the best shooting units in the game.

Daggermaw: i like the second army, it looks to be in my price range and it seems like a good army, i will play test it tomoz and hopefully post the results.

waaaaagh: i like the list, it might take a little longer to collect but i will have a go on using the list and see what happens

Just a quick report on how the battle went yesterday, i used the list daggermaw suggested and managed to win, just. my boyz got stuck when they were charged by a deard that just would not die, the others go slaughtered when a land raider redeamer got stuck into them. on the other side of the board the nobz carved their way through a big unit of grey knights and a tac squad. the burners exelled when they charged a 5man grey knight termi squad and wiped them out in one turn for the loss of 3 models.

A few things i learnt, KFF are a must, the boyz suvived for much longer that usual. I love nobz, they are dead 'ard. i needed more trukks or more boyz, i am not sure which to go with

that's why i play a speed freak army
I will say that the big mobs of boys isn't really my playstyle. I like to push trucks around and see things blow up.

A basic run down of my army list is this:

HQ
Kitted up warboss on bike, PK, cybork the works runs around 150 pts

Big Mek with KFF and a PK or burna sometimes some other things thrown in around 130 pts

Elites
Biker nobz on bikes to go with the boss, this unit gets expensive so depending on pts or who i'm playing i'll run this anywhere between 4 and 7 models, with a painboy cybork bodies, PKs some combi/flamers and a waaagh banner for good measure this can be anywhere from 350-500 pts so yes it does get pricey, but they are a scoring unit as well

Lootas or burnas depending on who i'm playing or how i'm feeling

Troops
3-4 squads of truck boyz with a nob armed with a Pk these squads are around 117 -140 pts

Fast attack
If I feel the need to take fast attack i'll take either 16 stormboyz with a nob or 3 skorcha tracks, again depending on who i'm playing

Heavy:
This is usually a wagon with deff rolla, and some guns.

Some times i take a second wagon with 20 boyz

My plan is this:

I load the Mek into a wagon with burnas if i took them or boyz if i didn't, then place my trucks around the wagon so they all get the save.
I use the boss with nobz to either turbo boost ahead so they hit first or scoot around the back and give help where's it's needed
I use the skorchas to hit massed troops like a bunch of nids or stormboyz to hit tanks.
If i brought lootas they just provide harrasing fire from the rear and are generally ignored (which is good).

The only real problems with this army is that
1. the warboss and nobz are extremly vulnerable to str 8 blast weapons, so avoid them at all costs
2. you cannot sustain yourself for very long in close combat, anything you assault needs to be gone in 1 turn, 2 at the max.

I'm not saying this is the uber list that's gonna pound all comers, but i will say it's one of the funnest ork lists i can think of to play and play against.
all the trucks zoomin around blowing stuff up make for a good time. kinda like mad max.
