So this is the P&M blog for my Orks.

The immediate things I need to put together include Lobbas, Lootas, and a Looted Vehicle with a cannon upgrade.

I have so many ideas that I think projecting them will end in disappointment, so I'll try to keep everything in the present and my imagination on a leash, albeit a long one.

Originally my plan was to charge straight into tank building, since the desire to do so was the main thing that dragged me back into warhammer. This was thwarted when I opened my old modeling tools box and the five year old bottle of plastic glue was completely bunk. My superglue however held up fine, surprisingly. So, I but aside my tank dreams for the next couple days 'til I can run to the GW and pick up a new bottle of plastic glue.

I had to work on something, though; I was anxious!

Long ago I ordered a whole bunch of bitz to assemble some lobbas from scratch, but the idea never gelled with me, so it never got off the ground.

Here is the start of a really kustom style lobba that I put together tonight.

The ramp and rokkit are not fixed on yet, I just put them there so you guys get an idea of the concept. It's inspired by the 2nd edition Pulse Rokkit, which was one of my favorite weapons. When 3rd edition came around, Ork support weapons were completely revamped to represent the ones we have today. I fielded pulse rokkit models as lobbas, so it's an homage to that. In fact, the ramp that the rokkit rests on is from that very model! The rokkit is a 3rd edition storm boy jump pack, with new wings attached to give it the appearance that it could actually travel some distance.

So while this one still needs the finer details worked out, I'm basically out of solid ideas for the other two lobbas. My temp concepts are a catapult that just lobs the missiles at the enemy (despite them obviously being able to deliver themselves as evidenced by this one, lol), and maybe four or five missles on a rack style setup? I have a bunch of stormboy jump packs, and some bits from imperial weapon teams, which I know I won't be using on other projects, so if anybody has any ideas, by all means propose them!

Here's some snapshots on the second lobbas' progress. I went with a high tech design to contrast the simple ramp of the last one. I've made progress on the first lobba as well, but not enough to warrant taking photos.

So when it's done it'll have two more rokkits on the left side where there are none. The whole rokkit set-up is still really rough, gonna add a lot more gubbinz in the back. I'm thinking of putting a grot on top of the chassis, just behind the armor plate. For him, it's the next best thing to being in a killa kan.

So far I have one high-tech lobba, one low-tech lobba, I figured the next one should be the comic relief. They are orks, after all.

Some ideas I had:

- A base with nothing more than grotz blowing up balloons with a big compressed helium can, and a stack of rokkits just lying on the grass. Suspended above this little scene, high in the air would be a rokkit dangling from a rope, tied to a bunch of balloons. Ominously floating towards the enemy (or wherever the wind takes it)

- A big see-saw. On the lowered end is a rokkit in a catapult-like cup. The other end is raised platorm with a diving board and a grot* about to jump off, onto the high end of the see-saw.

* or a grot with a large iron ball chained to his foot.

- Convert a rokkit to be double length or more, and have it standing upright in the center of the base. All around it will be gear and a large tower with cables and platforms attaching to the rokkit. Basically, a grot version of an Apollo launch.

- Big slingshot. A 40k version of the fantasy gobbo launcher warmachine, but rokkits instead of gobbos with wings.

- A grot hammer strength test, like the ones at the fair. Example It'll have a little pad that the grots hit, and it'll have numbers going all the way up, with "blast off" or something similarly cheesy at the top. I have an old gretchin model with a sledge hammer very smugly thrown over his shoulder, it'll go great.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I like those a lot. Lobbas look really cool with rockets.

It looks a little too 'Orcy' to me, sure Orks are unorganized but they know how to build artillery. If you want to continue the theme maybe make them Snakebites or Feral Orks?

These are looking really nice! Very well executed, and they do feel like lobbas should feel. You could eve get away with using them as kannons if you wanted, I bet.

I do have to echo the thoughts above though, they do feel a bit on the more primitive side, but that's quite okay if that's what you're aiming for! Great conversions so far in any case.

I completely disagree. Snakebits wouldn't likely have the teknology to make rokkit lobbas. They'd still be use Rock Lobbas

Lobba #1 Done!!!

This is the first model assembly I've completed since I got back into warhammer. Monumental!

Now this gets put into the "to paint" pile. Or rather, it starts the "to paint" pile, since it's the first one.

I worked on the other lobba as well, but nothing worth taking pics for.

Also, I need opinions on my ideas for the third lobba... if you guys are silent I'm probably gonna go with the hammer game!! Although if you guys can think of a solid way to scratch build ballons, I'd totally do that one...

On to #3, which I haven't even started yet. I've started assembling bits for the hammer-game style lobba, but I'm still torn between that and the balloons.

Did you make the glyph?like what I have seen so far but must just ask that at least on rocket must have a gobbo strapped to it.

The glyphs are on both are from fantasy orc shields. Maybe two editions ago? I'm not sure if the current orc shields have them or not. The primitive lobba's glyph is straight-up, the one on the high-tech lobba i changed a bit: I chopped off the bottom jaw and replaced it with the iron gob from the 40k ork set.

[edit: I realize I never explained what the last lobba is. I'm making a Gort version of a carnival hammer thing. Example. Although, this one will have a rocket attached to it, so when a grot strong enough brings the rocket to the top, instead of ringing a bell, the rocket flies off towards the enemy!]

What I'm unsure of at the moment is what to put on the face of the column. I need some kind of detail or counter to run up the column to "grade" the strength of the grot who smacks it with the hammer. I had a few ideas:

- Progressively bigger guns and other various prizes. The higher the rocket goes, the better the prize. On the bottom would be a single bullet, then a whole clip of ammo, then a stikkbomb, then a grot blasta, then a slugga, bolt pistol, gorka-morka style kannon, and a shoota at the top.

- Enemy heads. This would be a joking way of grading how strong the hit was. A un-helmeted human head (or skull), then an eldar head, space marine, chaos space marine, and ending with (a big) tyranid. They would all have captions describing what they are ("soft oomie", "panzee", " 'ard oomie", "bugeye", etc)

- Just go with a classic "thermometer" style rating system. Have 1 at the bottom and 9 at the top, and "Blast-off!!" above that. Then have graffiti style ork carnival equivalent slang

if your going for hilarious and offensive to your opponents then id say go with the heads.....IMO i think that would be awesome!!!

I worked on Lobba #3 for about an hour today. Assembled the chassis. The only thing that's slowing me down now is deciding what to put to the face panels, as described in my last post.

I vote heads.

I've got the base and crew done, so I need opinions on the decorations asap!! This project is wrapping up!!

Is that a grot bomb launcher?

Haven't posted in a while. I've started working on lootaz, but I didn't want to post pics of them until the lobbas were done.

Here's an update on the hammer-strength lobba thing. It's still missing it's rokkit, and the crew (contestants?) aren't depicted with it 'cause I'm not doing the base until I've gotten a bit more done on the body. I've converted one little snotling to be in mid-swing with a large hammer, though, so I'm looking forward to showing that off.

Hey dudes, it's been a while!

I got frustrated with the last lobba. I'm not sure if the concept is still working for me. It's almost done, and I'll post up some pictures when it is. If I don't like it and we can't collectively figure something out for it, i'll just have to go and make a forth lobba.

In the mean time, I've started some lootas. I gotta say, I can't stand the current loota models. The guns are supposed to be kustom to each user, not "same design different barrel". So I'm making ten lootas from scratch, each with a totally different gun, in a totally different style. Also, they're gonna be a deathskullz mob, so I'm going to represent that with helmets and masks that follow a blue skull motif. Here's some WIP of some of the ladz and guns so far:



You can see one of the skull mask/helmets done on this one. Also, he's armed with a first-ed eldar scatter laser; I'm pretty sure I've seen other people on this board use that same piece to represent either deffguns or big shootas.

Nice job on the lootas i made my own deffgun out of a lascannon a big shoota and some of the little addons they give you in the loota burna box. I only made the one however due to me liking the way that the in box lootas look.

Cool stuff! I especially like the last loota with the Judge Death look and the top mounted shootas! Very Orky!

This isn't 100% done, but it's as far as I'm going to document here. I have a few little detail tweaks to make, but until my photography better (it will...), there's not much point in documenting small changes.

Next up are more lootas including two orks sharing a battle cannon and more intergration of 2nd edition guns. Also a looted wagon with boomgun, which will be represented as a Whirlwind style concept on a chimera chassis.
