So after a long while, the details for this commission have been fleshed out. As such ive started work. The client is wanting a thread started on these guys all around town to get as much feedback as possible on the design of them and for any changes that need to be made. So, any and all comments, good or bad are welcome and much appreciated.

Enough blabbering..

The client first contacted me back in late august last year. During that time we have been slowly discussing and coming up with a good theme for his renegade guard army that he has commissioned me to build, convert and paint.

He has some key things he wants in the armies theme.

1) Alot of technology in the army. Crude tech but tech still.

2) Pale skin.

3) Some kind of fancy rengade helmet. GS, kit bash, whatever. I went the kit bash route as its easiest and as such cheapest money wise for the client.

4) Fluff wise is they come from a world thats sole use to the imperium is mining minerals. The surface is similiar to mars (present day). The caves themselves that have been dug quickly grow a fungus. The fungus itself is what feeds the miners of the planet.

5) Heavy on the conversions in the army for everything except tanks. He will have minmal tanks when its done as they are a "miners gone bad group" as he puts it.

Thats about it. From that I came up with these things:

Bases: Rocky like mars but not as red. Some grass to spice it up along with the random piece of metal scrap.



Approved color scheme: Its got the olive green ala the fungus in the caves and its got an off light pale red as the armor color to match the surface.





The first set is to dark and the single is to bright. Go figure..

Heavy Weapons Teams: In keeping with the tech theme the weapon teams are actually a robot gun with a "driver". Basically its based off the new mobile m60 gun platforms the US military is starting to use. Obviously alot bigger since its the imperium but basically the same thing. The guy driving it is free to shot at whatever as the gun fires itself.

The gunner will be be removable for casuality reasons.



Sentinal: Robot walker basically from the mines. Now its fitted for cobat with a nice lascannon. I cant take credit for the design. I cant remember exactly where I saw it but someone made something just like it as a blood pack stalk tank. Idea snagged. Although his is better.

For your squad sargents, maybe use the pick off of vehicle sprue for a "power pick" ccw. Sentinal/stalker looks great, cant wait to see more!!

The Renegade Ogryn Beserkers from forgeworld are cool...and one of them has a pick too!! Their boss has a drill arm!

But at $30 a model they're expensive...but if your commission is paying for it they'd look nice!

Excellent, a refreshing change from the "red, black and spiky" look well see rather often.

The muted and earthy colour scheme, coupled with the sweet conversions for the archaic technology makes this commission one to watch out for.

Your client's certainly the lucky one!

WaaaaghLord - Top part is the chaos warrior helmet with the horns chopped off. Lower part is really any humanish head cut to fit. The ear muffs are thick plastic rod cut to sshape and the rivets on the top as well as the muffs are thin plastic rod also cut to shape. Most of them also need necks sculpted as they are from the zombie sprue.

The Thousandth Son - What head are you referring to? I didnt know there was a claws of lorek head. If you mean the marine helmet the sample lorek model has then Ah. If its another one, care to share? I play the Claws myself.

tinfoil - Indeed. He wants them based off the last edition ogryn models mixed with current chaos ogre parts and alot of GS. He wants them similiar to the FW ones but wants something no one else will have. BTW Your work always inspires me

s.j.mccartney - I tried really hard to talk the client into them as I really want to paint some up but He wants something no one else will have. So ill have to settle for painting some converted ones.

Small update on this commission with no pun intended. The client and I discussed making helmets or face masks for the ratlings like the rest of the army but the client decided against it for one simple fact. Fluff wise, the ratlings are actual ratlings. The skin tone should be normal. As such the army uses them to scout ahead into imperial controlled areas since, well, they can blend in.

So..





There are 4 more still to be painted but they need to be reposed.
