Does a magic sword confer it's magical properties when not being used? For example, does the sword of striking give me +1 to hit when I charge with a lance? Or does the brettonian birth sword give +1S on the charge?
You can only fight with one weapon. If you have a magic weapon, you must use that. So in this case you'd get the +1 to hit bonus form the sword of striking, but not the extra str. on the charge from the lance.
Mekboy is right on that account. Only Bretonians are allowed to use the Lance in the first round of combat and then their magic weapons in the later rounds. This is an exception to the normal rule and only applies to them. They also do not benefit from the magic weapons bonuses in the first round, when using the lance.
