-------------

Mission:
Capture and Control – SpearHead
We Rolled for the number of objective markers: 5
We placed them:
Objective1: - Crater to the left
Objective2: - Central cross roads crater
Objective3: - Upper ruin
Objective4: - Lower Ruin
Objective5: - Next to building on the right
Heretic won the roll and picked to go first on the top Left table edge.

---Deployment---

I failed to seize the initiative? meh...!

---Turn1---
-Orks Turn 1-
Orks moved out,
Heretic decides to run pretty much everything and rolls plenty of 6’s!
As The Orks surged forward, my thoughts were probably audible ‘~oh my god this isn’t good!~’
The BigMek Fires his SAG and kills 1PM and stuns the Central CSM Dread.

-Nurgle Turn 1-
DCCW dread behaves himself and runs towards the Orks.
Both Vindicators open fire hitting about 15 boys but they get cover saves and when the dust clears they’ve only killed 7 boys total.
Plasma Dread Fire Frenzys into the stunned Plasma Dread No damage

14PMs mill about a bit unsure if they should move back or claim the objective!
7PMs back off a bit but claim their objective

end of turn 1 ------- Objectives --- Orks - 3 --- Nurgle - 1 -----

---Turn2---
-Orks Turn 2-
Orks Swarm forward!
a StormBoy leaves the table involuntarily! the rest of his squad assault and destroy a vindicator.

Deff Dread scores a 6” run! Rah!
Orks shoot but the results are pathetic!
HardBoys think they are TankBustas and go for a vindicator, but fail to penetrate.

Big Mek destroys a (fire frenzy) CSM Dreads Plasma Cannon.

-Nurgle Turn 2-
No daemons from reserve.
The Dreads behave themselves, the DCCWx2 dread and Plasma dread assault into a squad of boys. The dread misses all his shots.
But in combat they kill 6 Orks, who being fearless take 6 more saves failing 5. So the Dreads killed a total of 11 Orks (with 9 attacks!)...

Vindicator Fires Killing 6 HardBoys

PM rapid fire at StormBoys killing 3
the Second Plasma dread assaults the HardBoys trying to destroy the Vindicator!
The Daemon Prince Jumps down from the Building and Assaults the Deff Dread wreaking it quickly and jumping back into the ruins.

end of turn 2 ------- Objectives --- Orks - 2 --- Nurgle - 1 -----

---Turn3---
-Orks Turn 3-
Boys feeling brave try to assault the DP but fail to make the distance...
another of the Stormboys pops as his squad fires up their rockets and assaults around to the back of the chaos dreads.

The Dreads lash out killing four Stormboys. The boys get to work and immobilise the Plasma Dread.
The WarBoss joins in the Dread Bashing and wreaks the CSM DCCWx2 Dread
The Big Meks Fires at the big PM squad hitting 10! Wounding 7... they get a cover save and 3 PM die.
Boys shoot at the DP wounding him once.

-Nurgle Turn 3-
Still no daemons...
Vindicator fires through the ruins killing 4 boys
PlagueMarine Squad assaults the stormboys killing 4
Dread kills two more boys in the big combat.

Stormboys pull another bit out of the dread this time removing the Dreads DCCW...
Daemon Prince leaps to support the other dread fighting the HardBoys.

He kills a couple of HardBoys but he’s too late and the HardBoy Boss Finnishes off the Dread.
the remaining HardBoys put a second wound on the DP.
Being in combat with the DP = The Hardboys panic! They fail their Ld!
But the Boss Kills 1 of the HardBoys to show discipline and restores order, Ld passed!

end of turn 3 ------- Objectives --- Orks - 2 --- Nurgle - 1 -----

---Turn4---
-Orks Turn 4-
Boys at the back holding Objectives are getting itchy! ‘aww Boss we wanna join the fight!’
The Second squad of Boys in the center are told to get back on their objective! 'We dun wanna hang about, we wanna crump da stink'in ummies'
In the Big combat 3 Plague marines are killed.
the StormBoys pull more cables from the Dread 'wots diz'(scoring 4 Penetrating hits) they remove the plasma arm, shake & stun the dread!
They have so many parts on the floor they can’t believe it’s still standing!

The Plague marines Kill 4 Stormboys... the PM pass all their Fearless saves...
The Daemon Prince and HB boys battle it out, the DP kills both boys and puts one wound on the boss!

The Boss lashes out and wounds the DP, but then he loses his bottle and legs it, the DP cuts him down as he flees.

-Nurgle Turn 4-
Daemons arrive from the warp and I placed them between the two ork mobs holding objectives...

(After we played this game I Found out that this was a incorrect/cheating daemon DS! they should have been placed next to a Icon...
I’ve been Deep Striking incorrectly willy-nilly since the CSM codex landed! But I Know how it works now... I wont do it again... sorry!)

Orks laugh at the silly daemons killing 7 as they scrabble and assault into the crater.
The daemons strike back killing 5 orks... another 2 daemons are pulled into the warp (for failling their fearless saves) 9daemons dead and 5 orks...

things get worse as The Daemon Prince assaults into the big combat, the Orks in cover hit first and kill him too!

The Dread kicks a boy to death – the War Boss has had enough of that!
He jumps on the Dread leaving it a pile of twisted dead metal, stealing the StormBoys glory!
StormBoy and Nobs kill 6 PlagueMarines with their Power Claws ‘look Boss they do feel pain!’
they quickly surround the last remaining Plague marine...

end of turn 4 ------- Objectives --- Orks - 0 --- Nurgle - 0 -----

---Turn5---
-Orks Turn -
The last few boys (from the initial combat, still alive) are now free of combat and move out to claim the objective!

Mek Fires and misses
The Circle of Orks murder the last PM

Boys wipe out the lesser Daemons reclaiming their Objective.

the Boss and Nobs move to Claim the Objective in the ruins

-Nurgle Turn -
Vindicator Moves towards objective and fires at the Nobs killing 3

<sorry No map>
end of turn 5 ------- Objectives --- Orks - 4 --- Nurgle - 1 -----

---Turn6---
-Orks Turn -
StormBoys Nob moves 12” and hits the Vindicator wreaking it

WarBoss shows the boys how to hold a objective

MeK Fires at the PM cowering behind the wreaked vindicator killing 2

-Nurgle Turn -
Plague Marines honker down some more...

end of turn 6 ------- Objectives --- Orks - 4 --- Nurgle - 1 -----

---Turn7---
-Orks Turn -
MeK Fires at the PM honkering behind the vindicator killing 1 more

-Nurgle Turn -
Plague Marines wonder where it all went wrong for them?

end of turn 7 ------- Objectives --- Orks - 4 --- Nurgle - 1 -----

So that's It Orks are awesome! Heretic Is a worthy opponent who I have yet to beat!
I'm happy with my new City terrain Base Board. I'll post some details of that later!
I need to do something to turn around my losing streak! 3 loses in a row!
So what do you all think?

Nice report and nice board.
That were a lot of orks. I think you should get some more troops instead of the vindis or the dreads.

Cheers

What models do you have access to? That might help us to figure out how to help you .

You need some flamers . If you packed 2 flamers in your pm squads it would help. If you don't like tooling for an opponent it's always nice to have a unit with them anyways. If you are doing 3 squads of pm's (all of 7 of course) you could do flamers, melta's, and pg's and split it up for multiple opponents. I didnt' see any special weapons on your squads?

Nurgle Terminators w/ lightning claws will do nasty nasty things to orks.

If you can help it never, ever let an ork mob charge you. If you have a choice between rapid fire or charging always take the charge. Especially with nurgle marines that means the orks go down to a strength of 3 and need 6's to hit and you will go before them because they won't get the initiative boost.

Can you swap in defilers for the vindicators? They would help you more, especially if you keep the heavy flamer.

Dreads are strength 10 (as are defilers) and go at initiative, that means that you can insta-kill his warboss before it even goes and since he's an independent character as long as he's in base to base he's a viable target (and if he wasn't in base to base he doesn't get to attack).

Why do the orks need a 6 to hit? I thought Orks and Plague Marines were both WS4....

Also, I imagine the vindicators are in because of the large blast marker - could be handy against all those tightly spaced boyz squads....

I think Warmaster meant 6 to wound. 4s to hit, 6s to wound, and the PM gets 3+ armour and 4+ FNP saves. All bad news for da boyz.

Nice batrep. The overhead shots are very useful, and the shots looking down the Vindicator barrel are very cool.

That's a fantastic board, well done! Wish I had those skills (and the time to apply them)!

plague marines with flamers inside a land raider.
Orks don't like that.

I don't consider summoned daemons very interesting vs orks; they're just too fragile.
If you want daemons, just split your 14pm squad into 2, and take a naked champion + summoned greater daemon.

Considering vindicators; they suffer from cover saves... Killing 7 boys a turn with 2 vindies is not enough.
You did not use them to contest objectives, which would have been good, since you were struck in your deployment zone with most of your army, leaving the other objectives free.
Turn them into the above mentionned land raider for your PM (with flamers!)

Besides that, nice batrep, as always. Keep going

Hmm, I wouldn't give cover in this situation. I mean, there is no obstacle between the gun barrel and the orks. No parts are hidden. Am I wrong?

Anyway it's one of the best battle reports ever. I like the pics because they show both the whole battlefield and little details.

Yeah,
thanx for the advice guys i'm taking it all in.
I plan on adding defilers and obliterators to this army when I find the time to convert some, I hate the current models!
Tactics wise for this game I tried to get men on the ground, to fight the ork numbers, so I minimised the ammout of wargear I gave the marines. the deamons were a let down, but then again I threw them into a big squad of orks in cover!

your right! but the picture was out of position in the report, my fault. It should have been put in the next turn, just before the hardboys assaulted the vindicator. thanx for pointing it out, I've tidyed the report up.

If you look at the photos before the vindicators firing, the hardboys were kinda behind the baracades.
That vindicator hit 7 HBs, I wasn't sure if i could see most of the squad on the hill, it was sorta 50/50 if they got a save, so we gave them a 5+ save. which 4 of the hard boys made!
the other vindicator hit the squad of boys in the cental crater and they got a 4+... the cover saves really helped the Orks out!

Your reports are always interesting to read. At first, I was a bit bummed the Orks weren't painted. However, your report was very clear to read and the pics really clarify each situation, so the gray Orks were acceptable (plus, I know how long it can take to get the Boyz painted).

Thanks for another great report.

yeah,
My DP wings are from WHFB Bel'akor... they are very grimdark with all the skulls... I wasn't able to get them as bits so I bought the whole model... That worked out OK as I ended up using his legs, tail, sword and wings.
the other bits are a maneater orges head and ghaz's power claw...

Hertic has just started collecting Orks (He assembled the storm boys on the game table prior to battle!) so I expect that we'll see some painted before too long!

That was a pretty good report you certainly use some interesting ideas in telling the battle, don't mind if I nab some of them.

One thing I found a bit displeasing however was that at times I could hardly make out what was in the picture. Perhaps due to the lighting or the models not being painted, but there were times where I kept wondering what I was looking at exactly.

Other than that, great report.

Nice Report! I'm personally not a fan of the chaos Dreadnoughts. I have found, with Chaos, the less armor the better things seem to work in my favor. Flamers would make a difference though.

If you smell bad, take a shower before playing me. I hate when people devote too much time to something that they can't even shower.

Nice job, pity Chaos fell to those darn dirty orks though! Love the board, but the juxtaposition of beautiful scenery and the grey horde is sort of jarring. Perfectly understandable if he just started collecting them though.

I like the color scheme on the Nurgle troops - I haven't seen purple used before. Are you using a mix of old style and new style marines in there?

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

yeah,
congrats on the post count Salvage! I bet you've been dreaming about getting entombed in a dread for some time! It's a honour to have it happen right here.

I bought two more FW nurgle dreads at the weekend, and have two AOBR dreads to convert, but I plan on running the Chaos Dreadtastic DataSheet..can't remember it's name. Also I'm holding onto some sort of hope that in the next chaos codex that dreads are in squadrons. Although I won't be painting these up for a while as I work on the next best thing.. a KillaKan stompy army!

You don't normally get much thread necromancy in the bat reps forum, but It was actualy fun to read through this battle again.

Great report. Nicely taken pics. As has been said before, don't let the boyz have the charge. The Defiler would have been more usefull in comparison to the vindicator. You're getting the battlecannon which has a longer range. Though it's only Str 8 and Ap 3, you still get the large blast, as well as a heavy flamer, reaper auto, and all the cc attacks. Once again, great report.

"And what are the achievements of your fragile Imperium? It is a corpse rotting slowly from within while maggots writhe in its belly. It was built with the toil of heroes and giants, and now it is inhabited by frightened weaklings to whom the glories of those times are half-forgotten legends."

This bat rep was in Feb., it is now Nov..
Ten-Numb and his Necromancy is awe-inspiring...

I'm sure Panic will have another Bat Rep at some point that we can respond to now, wait 7 months and have people start posting on it again...

No offense to Panic, it was a nice game, but I had thought this was a new fight and was saddened to re-read the same and was sort of pissed.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
