Heading to Adepticon this year and planning to bring a new army for the combat patrol tournament there (most of my time at adepticon will be spent at modeling/painting seminars). I've decided to bring Sisters of Battle, but I'm not quite sure what *exactly* to bring.

Here is my initial list:

Sisters of Battle squad
-2x Flamers
-Veteran Sister Superior /w Combi-Flamer, Book of St. Lucius
-Rhino /w Extra Armor, Smoke Launchers

Sisters of Battle squad
-2x Meltaguns
-Rhino /w Extra Armor, Smoke Launchers

Comes out to 397

It is pretty straight forward, can deal with armor and infantry, and is mobile enough to get around quickly. Plus, it is two units that can take objectives.

I'd kinda like to bring Repentia, just for flavor, but it is hard to fit them into a list, and they aren't Troops, so can't take objectives...

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Try using zealots instead or use one dominion squad with an immolator.

I like this:

HQ Palatine w/ Eviserator, Jump Pack, Book of St. Lucius, Bolt Pistol (86pts)

Elite 4x Celestians w/ Bolters, 1 w/ Hvy Bolter, Immolator w/ TL Hvy Bolters (140pts)

Troop 8x Sisters w/ Bolters, 1 w/ Meltagun, Vet Superior w/ Bolter & Book, Rhino (174pts)

Of course, this uses the Imperial Armour 2 update, where Sister Rhinos cost 35pts each. Works out to 400pts on the dot, with 3 faith points.

While I much prefer Mech Sisters any other time, at these kinds of low points I think regular Battle Sisters are better off foot slogging. You will need as many bodies as you can get, and those Rhinos are making up close to 1/3 of your list. Alternatively, if you really want vehicles, a unit of Dominions or Celestians with an Immolator could provide a nastier surprise against the kinds of lists you can expect to face.

Gabe’s list has 20 bolter shots at 24”, 36 bolter and 2 meltagun shots at 12”, 3 flamer templates (1 of which is a one shot), and 1 faith point.

My list has 6 heavy bolter shots at 36” (3 are twin-linked); 6 heavy bolter and 14 bolter shots at 24”; 6 heavy bolter, 27 bolter, and 1 meltagun shot at 12”; 1 heavy flamer template; 1 jump pack mounted chain fist; and 3 faith points.

Both lists have 2 tanks. My list has an assault unit that is good versus IC, MC, and tanks, as well as a fire base that Gabe’s list is missing.

I’ll stick to my list.

SJ

PS – If I had to field it using a 50pt Rhino, I’d drop the TL Heavy Bolter and both Books of St. Lucius, which gives me a fast tank with TL Heavy Flamers. Not a bad trade for a 400pt game.

Hi!
I dont have a ton of experience with the Sisters of Battle, but I would like to hear more ideas as to where to start building a combat patrol!
I have a lot of figures that Ive never really used, plus 2 exorcists that I got at gamesday that are still only partially assembled.

I say PLEASE to all of you SoB players that can recommend suggestions for the poster and for other interested players as to where to start for 400-500 point games.

Gabe: if you've had any luck in your games please post what you've been using!

Thanks!

That's fine, but what about lists? Any Veteran Witch Hunters/Sisters players out there have any 400-500 point lists they'd recommend?
That seems like one of the best places to start to get them on the table and get used to the rules and use of faith points.

Thanks!

In my experience, 400-500 points is about the worst way to play Sisters; even 750 is barely a taste of playing them properly. Most of the real play for Sisters does not kick-in until the 1000-1500 mark. There is next to nothing you can do with your lists at these low points too. In Combat Patrol, you can take some Battle Sisters then either more Battle Sisters, or Battle Sisters by Another Name (ie Dominions/Celestians). At 500 points, two units of Battle Sisters and a Canoness will max out your points giving you only one choice: mech, or footslogging.

That is a good start. Change it slightly so you have heavy flamers and a melta in each squad so you can shoot a melta or flamer out the fire point of the Rhino.

Troops
10 Battle Sisters Squad with Melta gun and heavy flamer
Veteran Sister Superior with Book of Saint Lucius
Rhino APC with Extra Armor and Smoke Launchers
209 pts

10 Battle Sisters Squad with Melta gun and heavy flamer
Rhino APC with Extra Armor and Smoke Launchers
190 pts

399 pts

This is more flexible so you have a melta and heavy flamer in each squad. Not quite as much flaming power as your version but I run my Sister Squads with Melta and Heavy Flamer. Combi flamer/melta is nice but points are tight and the str 5 and ap4 of the heavy flamer are nice too.

I would suggest trying both out, as this one purely comes down to your personal play style. I started off playing with them mixed, as the tactical flexibility seemed the obvious way to go, but I later decided against it. Since the squads need to work together to succeed anyway, I found specialising each squad to be more effective. This is purely by my play style, however, so I would recommend a new player give both ways a few games to see what works for them.

What about 500pt games that arent bound by the Combat Patrol rules, but are bound by the FOC?
What would you all put into something like? And to jump to 750pts?
Please post!

You have no real choices at 500pts. Canoness and two units of Battle Sisters comes to 500 points. To 750, you can add one squad of something: another unit of Battle Sisters/Dominions/Celestians, Retributors, or Seraphim. Lately I have been running Seraphim in my 750 lists, but have not felt they are really worth it at such low points.

What kind of set up do you all use for Celestians? I think Id like to use them, just for variety, but they do get a heavy bolter...that seems worth a small squad right? HB's are pretty sweet....

Anyways, what else do you guys think?

500 pts having to follow the Force Organization Chart is really tough. Battle Sisters Squads the way I like to run them are 209 pts you can cut the Sister Superior and the book to get down to 190 to fit two squads in 400 but with 100 points you can't really run a well equipped Jump Cannoness.

For 100 pts you can run a Cannoness with Jump Pack, Cloak of Aspira for 2+ save and an Inferno Pistol. You can't afford the Eviserator or Blessed weapon at 500 pts.

750 you can kit out the Cannoness well and get the Eviserator or Blessed weapon and Book of Saint Lucius and then maybe some Seraphim or Celestians in an Immolator

5 Celestians with 2 Melta Guns in an Immolator with Extra Armor and Smoke Launchers for 158 pts is my set up for Celestians.

I see that Celestians have the same options as Battle Sister squads, except the Heavy Bolters and Multimeltas. Are these options worth considering to bring in some extra firepower, while the Sister squads go with Double Meltaguns or Flamer/Heavy Flamer options? I mean, is it better to just get some Retributors w/ Multimeltas or Heavy Bolters? Obviously Retributors get more of the Heavy Weapons, but they also jack the points up quick. I do have 2 Exorcists, but wouldnt it be beneficial to run an extra anti-troop or anti-tank weapon in a Celestian unit?

Whatcha think?

Avariel's Celestians are probably the `classic' load-out for them. Heavy Weapons do not go well with this army, so you will never use a Multi-Melta, and Heavy Bolters are generally restricted to Inquisitors and Retributors, if taken at all. I have run Retributors in many games, because I really want them to work, but have never once seen them provide a valuable contribution. One Marine/two Orks a turn does not really justify their cost, and my opponents largely ignore them (ie they do not create a no-man's-land), so I doubt I will run them again. If four Heavy Bolters contributes... nothing, imagine how bad a single one will be, especially when it takes a valuable squad out of the game to use it. You will find Celestians and Dominions are basically a good way to min-max with Sisters. They fill basically the same role as a unit of Battle Sisters, though they are not scoring.

I'd take two squads of 10 w/ melta and flamer

126 and 126 = 252

Two units of 5 celestians with heavy bolter = 70 and 70 = 140

Total 392

Don't worry about lack of faith ability on the small units. More 11 point bodies in power armor at this level of gaming is more important.

Celestians cover the advance. The Sisters do the other stuff.

You have no reason to believe that "scoring" units will be the only mission in the Combat Patrol tournament, so don't reduce effectiveness to get more Troops. But if you really want to you can trade the 10 celestians with heavies for 10 regular sisters with two special weapons and have room for one VSS if you really wanted.

Just wanted to let ya'll know that I tried out the following list on Saturday:

10x Sisters (2x Melta, Sister Sup. with combi-melta, book) mounted in a rhino with extra armor and smokes.

5x Seraphim (2x twin hand flamers, sister sup. with brazier, eviscerator, book)

I went up against a shooty daemon list and beat it, then a combat daemon list and lost (mainly due to really bad shooting on my part :( ). I also went up against an all stormtrooper list that I was kinda worried about, but ended up getting really lucky with the flamers, and beat it pretty easily.

I really like the mobility that the seraphim provide, along with the hit & run ability. I think this is the list I am going to take to adepticon.
