Hey,
With the new Lizardmen armybook, i decided to pick up my old favorite. Because most of the times i'll be playing 2250 pts, here's a new list:
Saurus Oldblood @ 456
Blade of realities
Carnosaur pendant
LA/shield
Carnosaur
Skink Priest @ 440
Level 2
Diadem of Power
Dispell Scroll
Engine of the Gods
Skink pries @ 430
Level 2
Cube of darkness
Engine of the gods
20 saurus warriors @ 270
spears
full command
15 skink skirmishers, musician @ 81
15 skink skirmishers, musician @ 81
3 Terradons @ 90
3 Terradons @ 90
3 salamanders @ 225
@ 2163 pts.
The Carnosaur and both engines will function as a hard-hitting combined unit, with one engine providing an 5+ wardsave and the other lowering the casting values of Lore of heavens. The Oldblood will take down most characters. (Even LD10 will fail, if you have to make quiet some tests). On the other flank, the skink units with the salamanders will advance, while the saurus warriors will stay in the center of the line, functioning as an anvil is necessary.
Hope you like it.
Grt. Pim

I'm just getting back into Fantasy after a long hiatus, but I'm considering running a list that looks a LOT like this. I'm leaving the magic items alone as I'll have trouble gauging their usefulness until I actually start PLAYING again (except for Blade of Realities, I KNOW I want that). Basically, I plan on removing the terradons and running either more skinks or a 3rd stegadon. And who knows? Maybe I'll like the terradons and put them back in!

Interesting. I see the Razordons as being more useful than Salamanders now, as they create an area the enemy simply doesn't want to charge.
The only issue I see is a lack of troops that can slow down an enemy and pin them in place if needed. I think you need another block of Saurus speed bumps.

Salamanders have a greater range (possibly) and modify armour saves by more than the Razordons. Razordons shoot more, and will make your opponent think twice before charging you(or three times if they aren't heavy cav.)

I agree, there could be an issue with your lack of troops who can lock someone in place for your Stegs and Carnosaur to hit.

Looks like Blade of Realities/EotG lists are quite popular.

dear lord don't drop the sallies, they are absolute murder on anything, especially things with a big armour save, sure its only str3 but the -3AS is deadly!! I've had my mate shoot up first my dwarves then my WOC with the darn things and their bloody difficult to get rid of (skirmish, fear and they fair ok in combat) Sallies are pure win the the new Lizard book.
PapaSmurf
ps - 2 engines is not going to win you any friends, skink/kroxie units are surprisingly good and damn resilient

Problem with the Salamanders is that people will just charge them, then their most likely out of the game. Razadons will stick around because not many people will be willing to charge them allowing them to keep shooting. their shooting may be a little less effective than salamanders, but they will get to keep shooting for most of the battle.

I agree with the not enough troops idea. Even though your carny + 2 EotGs combo is awsome They can be avoided or tied up long enough to crush the rest and take the table. Lizardmen are usually outnumbered but you may be drastically outnumbered.

I agree with this. Razordons are better for the simple reason of how good they are at standing and shooting. I still think they are silly, though. I also think that, considering units as part of an army, rather than in isolation, and you can hope to deter charges against your Salamanders by having a unit of Saurus knights on the flank with them.

I've been running, well, one game so far, dual single salamanders between infantry blocks. Sort of psuedo warp-fire throwers. I also run them close to my slann.
In that fashion, I have some success in dropping ranks from incoming units and not really had a problem with being charged. Admittedly, I haven't faced alot of flyers using this tactic and the one game I did, I ended up fleeing from the one charge, causing a failed charge that allowed the other salamander to toast, and the fleeing unit rallied next turn off the Slann LD.
I think if I was going to use them out on the flanks more, they would be razoradons, and be at least two beasties large.

the skink units should be traded in for the skirmishing units as they do way more in the long run. also i would drop the sallies and us the points to add in another block of saurus, because they IMO are the bread and butter of the lizardmen book.
