What do your successful ork tourney lists look like? I came up with a list that would do well with Composition as well as on the field (I think), I just wonder what you guys have had good luck (and points) on. Mostly in the army comp area.

This is general for 1500 points - all lists, feel free to keep general. I had a list at 1850 but have noticed there aren't many 1850 Rogue Trader tourneys around these days.

HQ: Mekboy, KFF

Remember the golden rule of Ork army building; Boyz before toyz. At 1500 pts, with very little support, you don't have nearly enough orks to survive. Also, that one unit of kommandos will get straight killed when it comes on, because there is no other assault unit in the army to support it. Having the KFF Big Meks is a good start, and the big shoota mobs, but you need at least 1 or 2 more shoota mobs to make it work. You said you wanted to score well in comp, so you want a more balanced list. That's fine, but still get rid of the big gunz. They are s***. Maybe add some more koptas.

I agree with scout ... more boyz!

Remember you can take 1 Deff Dread as a troop choice with the Mek, so might be worth considering (4 CC weapons).

You'll want to drop a couple of the Kommandos in place of 2 Burnas - on the charge it will give them 6 power weapon attacks which Snikrot misses out on.

I'd loose the Grots personally, they are an easy kill.

I would ditch the big gunz and grots for another shoota squad. Add 2 flamers to the kommandos and hope your boys get close enough before they insert or they will kill 1 squad and die.

Agree on the grots, they don't add anything to this list. Grots are great for home objective camping in a speed freaks army where all your boys squads are small and zooming all over the table. You already have big and slow moving squads so that's not really an issue with your list.

I don't like coptas personally, I would drop them, the guns, and the grots. In this kind of list I would use the points for 1-2 more large mobs of shootas. Then you need some heavy hitters and or some speed to contest objectives. A nob squad in a truck would do this, but it would be a lonly target. two trukk boy squads would do the trick and not cost that much. Run them up a flank and use terrain to minimize heavy weapon fire at them and you will have some support for the kommandos as well. (who should be given the burnas as suggested above. it is the only way to make them effective as more than a distraction).

My fav tourney army is:

1500
Mek with KFF in Battlewagon with a squad of 19 boyz
2 X 12 boyz in trukk
11 boys in truck with warboss
12 lootas
10 grots + handler
12-15 stormboyz(size depends on the upgrades you give other stuff) This could also be repalced by another trukk squad and be more efficient, but I love my storm boy conversions.

It wrecks most lists by turn 4. Heavy mech lists give it a little trouble though as it comes down to luck at popping enough transports to give all the boys something to charge. If that doesn't happen armies like mech sisters have orkkebobs for dinner. Its fun, fast and furious.

it is alos a great list in tourneys with comp scores as you have 5 troops, 2 hq, 1 heavy, one elite, one fa.

Drop those zzap guns, if you really want to run grots, make two squads of 19 grots with a herder if you plan on screening with them. I don't know about some people, but my Deffkoptas do some great things for me. I've instant killed my friends HQ on my 2nd turn and I've wrecked a lot of vehicles. It's all your preference though, test them before the tourny and if they don't do too much, replace them. You definitely need to free up some points for more boys. I wouldn't even use the kommandos with snikrot, it's pricey and risky since you don't have enough support. You also need 2 burnas as someone already said in ur kommandos squad if your definitely going to run them. OH! by the way, don't play your deffkoptas in a squad. Play them individually since they're pretty bad in a group if one dies since their leadership is terrible. (but thats most orks unless you have a ton in a squad )

Good advice from folks--more boyz, burnas, and get rid of those useless zzap guns.


my 1500 tournament list has 9 kans, 90 boyz, 1 deff dread...it's cruel.

You have too many grots for a list like this. Drop them entirely in favor of another shoota boy unit.

Drop the Deffkoptas to singles. Running two in one unit only insures a larger point investment runs off the table.

Big Gunz are good but just run the Kannons over Zzap as they are superior.

Add another Loota Unit for redundancy purposes.

The KFF's aren't serving any real purpose since most of your Orks should be getting 4+ cover anyway just prior to assaulting assuming your gaming table has standard cover options. Run a SAG and attach it to a small loota unit.
