Can a large target see a brettonian Damsel that is in the second rank of a lance formation. This came up yesterday when my slann miscast and wanted to use the cupped hands of the old ones item. I said that because he counts as a large target for line of sight he could see the damsel that was in the lance directly in front of him, but every one else said he couldn't. which is right?

I know she could see you but I don't think there is any rule that allows you to see her.

Yes large Targets can see over any interposing models, as such the Slaan in this case can pick the Damsel out.

How'd the Damsel get into the 2nd rank of the unit? If I'm correct characters except for Skaven must be in the front rank of the unit.

Bretonians have a special rule that allows Damsels to be in the center of the second rank of any knight unit.

Large Targets and units on hills can see and be seen over other models.

Whether said models are in the same unit as the model seeing or being seen is irrelevant.

Slann can see the Damsel. As could a Treeman Ancient with the little sniper Spite. Of course, if you had a ranked unit of archers (like Seaguard) the entire unit can see and shoot at Large Targets too (and units on hills).

You cant pick out a hero in a unit unless an item or spell says you can right? Like the #1 spell from the Nurgle list.

I'm pretty sure that 'see over interposing models' refers to models of different units, for instance, in the below diagram 1=Large Target Unit 2=The Targeted Unit 3=Another Unit

GW has said a Large Target can see models in the rear ranks of units.

Does the cupped hands of the old ones say that you can pick out any modal in the unit? if so then yes it can work on the damsel. If not you cant pick out heros in units.

Yes, cupped hands of the old ones picks out any caster, in line of sight of the slann, who is a large target in the magic phase.

This identical situation came up with me in game 1 of my tournament yesterday, too bad the damsel rolled a 5 for the miscast, and then when i forced the reroll with the cursed charm, rolled a 6, lol.
