it says like this in the eldar codex heavy support section:
Options:the war walker is armed with two weapons from the following list...(diffirent weapons and their costs)
does this mean i get two weapons for walker for the price that codex says it costs or do i have to buy the same weapon twice if i want for example two shuriken cannons
|
Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.
If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in. |

Elsewhere in the dex it will specify when 2 weapons become twin linked and when you just buy 2 weapons. Eldar are nice that way. In the tyranid codex, for example, when a creature takes the same weapon twice it's ALWAYS twin linked. For warwalkers you buy 2 weapons and they can be the same or different.
I use 3 walkers in my list and give them all scatter lasers... That's 8 s6 shots x 3--a very ugly thing. But yes, you do buy 2 SEPARATE weapons, and if they're the same you just have two to fire. If you bought 2 shuricans you'd pay, what is it, 10 points, times 2 and have 2 assault 3 s6 guns.

They are deff worth it. There a fairly cheep good anti MEQ/SWARM well anything realy they can get a weapon for every occasion. BL for anti-tank, Star Cannon for MEQ, Scatter Laser for mobs, ML for thouse hard to judge occasions. there a near must for glass cannon eldar.

In response to the OP, you are required to buy two weapons with the points listed for each singular weapon. Also as its mentioned for the wraithord and not the warwalker you may buy two identical weapons and fire them independantly. So for example a single war walker with two shuriken cannons costs 40pts (30+5+5) & likewise a warwalker with a shuriken cannon & scatter laser costs 50pts (30+5+15) HTH

Exactly... Take them, but don't make them integral to your battle plan. If a fleshborer can ruin the thing make them harassment units and troubleshooters. They fill a great role even if the models themselves are the most fragile and breakable of all models in the GW line.

You have to pay the points for each weapon, so 2 per walker. In general though, the only ones that are really good on war walkers are scatter lasers and missile launchers (and don't mix and match...take all the same weapon). Scatter lasers are cheap and effective against just about any target from light infantry up to light vehicles. The great bonus to them is that their high rate of fire overpowers and armor saves your opponent might get. It really helps when shooting at units in cover. On the flip side, missile launchers are great for flexibility and survival. You can fire plasma missiles to help limit the impact of the low BS of the walkers or you can fire krak and do anti tank work. The extra 12 inches of range also go a long way to helping the walkers survive since there isn't much that's going to be shooting back at them from that far away.

Good advice about taking the same weapon. I've taken the scatter laser/EML combo and they're just not as effective. Just take 2 of the same weapon and that'll tell you where you need to deploy them.

I will add in that cheap shuricans can also be an effective loadout. Thanks to scout move or outflank the 24" range is almost as efective as the36" of the SL. Yes, by getting within 24" you put them at more risk, but with certain lists, it is fine.
For example, in my Eldarzilla list, I run 3 Shurican WWs, along with 2 CC WLs and the Avvy. Of course Eldrad is there either with the COuncil or WG to keep the Avvy alive. With the 2 WLs, Eldrad and company, and the Avvy running at my opponents, my WWs are usually left alone for at least the first 2-3 turns or so (unless I used them to sceen my WLs on turn one)..this makes the 120 points I spent on them go a really long way
However, with any of my other lists, I run SLs on my WWs, so that they can stay back and safe with their 36" range. I just thought I would poing out that there are uses for the cheap shurican build, too.

I just like the '4' at the end of the scatterlaser profile... With my rolling that does a lot and like you said, an extra 12" never hurts. I like having the option of having range depending on who I'm facing. Like you said, maybe I won't want to outflank them, but use them as a screen. In cases like that a scatterlaser is very useful. At least for me...
